Job summary

ZeroPhase seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead development of advanced software for custom hardware deployed worldwide. You will design deployment infrastructure, emphasize security and resilience, and build tools to enhance user experience of data links.

You will work across the full lifecycle from design to support, tackling software-defined radio and embedded systems at scale, with a strong emphasis on fault tolerance and test automation.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent, plus 10+ years of software engineering experience (or 15+ years without a degree).
• 8+ years of development experience in C, C++, Python, or Rust.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly available embedded systems for long-term field deployment.
• Participate in architecture reviews and code reviews.
• Develop prototypes to validate key design concepts and constraints.
• Write Linux-based software for ARM/RISC-V processors and microcontrollers.
• Create test environments including hardware-in-the-loop simulations and virtualized hardware.
• Invent tools to improve deployment, testing, and data analysis within CI/CD pipelines.

Senior Embedded Software Engineer (m/w/d)

About the role

Join ZeroPhase as a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead development of cutting-edge software running on custom hardware deployed worldwide. You'll create deployment infrastructure, design for security and resilience, and craft tools that improve the user experience of our data links. Covering the full lifecycle, from design to support, you'll push the boundaries of software-defined radio and embedded systems at scale.

What you'll do

• Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant embedded systems that operate for long periods with minimal maintenance in demanding field conditions.
• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews.
• Develop prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints.
• Write high-quality Linux-based software for common processors and microcontrollers (e.g. ARM, RISC-V).
• Develop systems that allow for test execution across multiple environments, such as virtualised hardware or real hardware-in-the-loop simulations.
• Invent new tools that enable more frequent and reliable software deployment, test execution, and data analysis as part of a continuous integration and release system.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or a STEM discipline, plus 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering; or 15+ years of professional experience in software engineering instead of a degree.
• 8+ years of development experience in C, C++, Python, or Rust.
• Any experience with embedded or low-level systems development.

Bonus: not required

• Developed, debugged, and deployed software used in real-world embedded devices.
• Creative approach to problem solving, exceptional analytical skills, and strong engineering fundamentals.
• Solid fundamental knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, etc.), electronics, math, physics, and radio frequency.
• Strong skills in debugging, performance optimisation, and testing.
• Experience with security issues associated with distributed systems and internet services.
