Universal Music is the market leader in the music business. The world’s most famous and most successful record labels belong to us. We’ve been writing music history for over 100 years representing legendary musicians across all genres. Our accomplishments are driven by our love for music, extraordinary artists and our ambitious team.
Beats & Bytes (B3S) is a network of small, autonomous product teams, who act as microenterprises. To be agile and innovative, we live and foster psychological safety, constructive nonconformity, and diversity of thought. Empowerment and community are part of our culture. As the technical backbone we generate added value for Universal Music by solving our users’ problems. The B3S-Team forms the digital foundation for our business and actively contributes to the competitive advantage of Universal Music.
As part of B3S, our DevOps team builds the platforms that enable Universal Music Germany’s product teams to ship software reliably, securely, and quickly. Our mission is to remove operational complexity so developers can focus on creating experiences for artists and fans. We don’t measure success by how many tickets we solve. We measure success by how independently product teams can build and operate their software.
You treat our internal platforms as products, with our product teams as your customers, and continuously improve the developer experience they provide.
You design reusable platform solutions for different personas and use cases, balancing cost, performance, and architectural requirements according to specific needs, allowing product teams to move faster and operate their software with minimal operational dependency on the DevOps team.
You guide product teams on container usage, cloud-native architecture, and DevOps best practices, helping them build the skills to operate their own products successfully.
You collaborate closely with product teams and other stakeholders, document technical decisions, and actively share knowledge to enable product teams to deliver impact for our artists, eliminate single points of failure, and strengthen team resilience.
You continuously improve observability, monitoring solutions, and ways of working to ensure our SLAs and SLOs are met.
You integrate security into our platforms and processes, maintain our platform products, and support product teams in identifying and addressing vulnerabilities.
You facilitate our incident response process, enabling product teams to resolve production issues effectively and supporting root cause analyses and sustainable follow-up actions.
You collaborate with business stakeholders and international technology teams across Universal Music, contributing to the unique connection between technology and music at Beats & Bytes, bringing a product-focused engineering mindset to solutions that support Universal Music, our artists and our business.

Are proficient with several of the following tools and technologies: AWS core infrastructure components and platform products, AWS Media Services, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, Kubernetes, relational databases, check_mk, Vinyl Cache, DNS, and Linux.
Act as a role model when designing and maintaining automated pipelines, monitoring solutions, and infrastructure as code for development teams.
Have experience as a software developer with a hands‑on mentality, for example, with Python or PHP.
Have experience with system security, mitigation of supply chain attacks, and security vulnerabilities.
Have experience moderating meetings, feel confident and comfortable reading, writing, and speaking German and English at an excellent level, and can build a bridge between tech and business.
You enjoy collaborating more than working alone, actively contribute your ideas, and value different perspectives to find the best solutions together.
You document your work, actively share knowledge, and contribute to an environment where others can learn and succeed.
You take ownership and favor sustainable, long-term solutions over heroic firefighting.
You continuously improve yourself and the team.
You communicate openly, respectfully, and directly.
You stay calm and solution-oriented in stressful situations and maintain a clear view of what needs to be done.
