Perspix.ai in Karlsruhe is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to own production infrastructure across on-prem hardware and private clouds. You will design, automate, and operate the stack with Docker and Kubernetes, focusing on reliability, scale, and cost while enabling customer deployments in restricted networks.

The role requires hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containers, IaC, GitOps, observability, and security in enterprise environments.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of hands-on DevOps / SRE / Platform Engineering experience, operating production Kubernetes.
• Proven experience deploying and operating Kubernetes in on-prem or private cloud environments.
• Solid containerization and image hygiene practices (Docker, OCI images, signing).
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible (or alternatives).
• Experience with GitOps tooling (ArgoCD, Flux).
• Knowledge of networking, mTLS, DNS, and service meshes (Istio/Linkerd/Cilium).
• Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry for observability.
• Proficiency in at least one general-purpose language (Python or Go).

• Cluster operations: Run production Kubernetes clusters on on-prem hardware and private cloud — bare-metal, VMs, or hybrid setups.
• Automation & deployment: Build IaC (Terraform, Ansible) and GitOps pipelines for repeatable rollouts across environments.
• Image & supply-chain hygiene: Manage container images, registry, SBOMs, signing, and supply-chain provenance.
• Observability: Run Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and OpenTelemetry across the fleet — metrics, logs, traces.
• Security: Harden clusters, manage secrets, enforce network policies, and set up mTLS between services.
• Customer deployments: Work with customer IT and security teams to install Perspix inside perimeters.
• Documentation: Keep runbooks, architecture diagrams, and incident postmortems current.

About The Role

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will own the infrastructure that runs Perspix in production — and inside customer perimeters. Our stack is built on Docker and Kubernetes, deployed on on-prem hardware and European private clouds. No hyperscaler dependency. Your job is to design, automate, and operate this stack for reliability, scale, and cost — while making customer deployments inside large industrial IT departments a non-event.

Key responsibilities

• Cluster operations: Run production Kubernetes clusters on on-prem hardware and private cloud — bare-metal, VMs, or hybrid setups.
• Automation & deployment: Build IaC (Terraform, Ansible) and GitOps (ArgoCD, Flux) pipelines for repeatable rollouts across environments.
• Image & supply-chain hygiene: Manage container images, registry, SBOMs, signing, and supply-chain provenance.

Requirements

Education & experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of hands‑on DevOps / SRE / Platform Engineering experience, operating production Kubernetes.

Technical skills

• Kubernetes in anger: production experience with k8s, k3s, or kubeadm — on bare-metal, VMs, or private cloud, not just managed services.
• Containers: Docker, OCI image hygiene, multi-arch builds, image signing.
• IaC: Terraform, Ansible (or equivalent — Pulumi, Salt).
• GitOps: ArgoCD, Flux, or similar declarative deployment pipelines.
• Networking: ingress controllers, service mesh (Istio, Linkerd, or Cilium), mTLS, DNS.
• Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry.
• Automation language: comfort with at least one general-purpose language (Python, Go).

Soft skills

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional work.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Calm under incident pressure; bias toward writing things down.

Preferred

• Experience with bare-metal Kubernetes — provisioning, lifecycle management, hardware troubleshooting.
• Working with European cloud providers (Hetzner, OVH, IONOS, Scaleway) or pure on‑prem deployments.
• Air-gapped or restricted-network rollouts inside large industrial IT departments.
• Security‑review experience with enterprise buyers.
