Job summary

SAP is seeking a Senior Developer (m/f/d) for Baremetal Automation within SAP Cloud Infrastructure. You will build enterprise cloud infrastructure, automate provisioning and lifecycle of large server fleets, and tackle complex distributed systems challenges across baremetal lifecycle automation, server provisioning, hardware management, and APIs.

What you'll build

Build enterprise cloud infrastructure that provides European data sovereignty and hyperscaler-grade capabilities. You'll work on SAP Cloud Infrastructure, solving complex distributed systems challenges at scale across baremetal lifecycle automation, server provisioning, hardware management, container orchestration, storage systems, and the APIs that connect them.

You'll develop solutions using Go, Python, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and hardware-management APIs. You will tackle challenges such as automating the provisioning and lifecycle of large server fleets, integrating heterogeneous hardware platforms, designing resilient control‑plane services, and exposing reliable APIs for production infrastructure. Your work will power SAP's production systems and thousands of customer environments.

In your role as Development Expert, you'll provide technical leadership for engineering teams building baremetal automation capabilities within SAP Cloud Infrastructure. You'll guide architecture and implementation decisions, establish engineering practices that enable rapid and reliable delivery, and help teams solve complex infrastructure automation challenges while maintaining the quality and reliability expected from enterprise cloud services.

You'll collaborate across teams working with Go, Python, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and server hardware from leading vendors. Your expertise will shape scalable, operator‑based automation that turns physical infrastructure into consistently managed cloud capacity.

What you'll bring

• Expert Programming: Deep expertise in Go, Python, or C/C++, with a strong focus on baremetal automation, REST APIs, and hardware‑management interfaces. Strong practical knowledge of Redfish protocol is required.
• Server Hardware Expertise: Deep knowledge of server hardware from at least one of our preferred vendors: Lenovo, Dell, or HPE. Experience with server lifecycle management, firmware, out‑of‑band management, and automated provisioning is highly valued.
• Kubernetes Operator Development: Strong experience developing operators and controllers for Kubernetes, including reconciliation patterns, custom resources, lifecycle management, observability, and reliable automation of infrastructure services.
• Cloud & Infrastructure Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Docker, with experience in microservices, event‑driven architecture, and infrastructure automation concepts.
• OpenBMC Knowledge (Benefit): Knowledge of OpenBMC and open server‑management ecosystems is a plus.
• Technical Curiosity: Strong interest in server platforms, hardware‑management protocols, provisioning workflows, and infrastructure control planes, with the motivation to continuously deepen expertise in baremetal automation and cloud infrastructure.
• Technical Leadership: 8+ years of software development experience with a proven track record of contributing to or leading architectural decisions across teams in complex, distributed environments.
• Scale & Performance: Experience designing and operating systems that support large server fleets, highly available control planes, and resilient distributed architectures.
• Security and Compliance: Solid understanding of security principles and compliance requirements, with experience incorporating regulatory and risk considerations into system and architectural design.
• Cultural Adaptability: Experience working across cultures and languages, combined with strong communication skills for collaboration within diverse, distributed teams.
• Soft Skills: Excellent presentation, communication, and problem‑solving skills; a structured, accurate, and self‑driven working style; high level of commitment and reliability; readiness to work in a constantly evolving environment; enthusiasm for collaborating in a multinational team.
• Depending on project assignment, candidates may need to be eligible for security clearance under German law.
