C&A Mode GmbH & Co. KG in Germany is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java and modern frameworks. You will contribute to robust architectures and be part of an international team driving innovation in fashion tech.

You will work across cloud, data pipelines, and microservice architectures, guiding teams on reliability, performance, and CI/CD practices while contributing to an energetic retail tech environment.

Qualifikationen

• Senior-level experience building backend services and APIs in Java
• Strong knowledge of modern frameworks (Spring Boot; Micronaut or Quarkus)
• Experience designing scalable distributed and event-driven architectures
• Proficiency with cloud platforms and IaC (AWS/GCP/Azure, Terraform)
• Experience with CI/CD, monitoring, and observability

Our Engineers are responsible for building and maintaining the components and integrations of our software products, as well as operating them in production. The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about developing software, is experienced with modern software technologies and frameworks, has a strong passion for delivering exceptional user experiences, and has a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Your responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs, with a strong focus on system architecture and integration layers
• Support and evolve event-driven and streaming architectures, including data pipelines and asynchronous communication
• Shape and maintain cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code practices in collaboration with platform and DevOps teams
• Drive architectural decisions across teams, ensuring systems are reliable, observable, and aligned with long-term technical strategy
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, guiding engineers on system design, scalability, and performance
• Champion engineering best practices across code quality, CI/CD, and automation.

What you bring

• Senior-level experience building backend systems in Java, with strong knowledge of modern frameworks (Spring Boot; Micronaut or Quarkus)
• Proven ability to design scalable, distributed, and event-driven architectures, including streaming systems (Kafka, Pulsar, or similar)
• Good understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, API design, microservices, and data stores (SQL and NoSQL)
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code (AWS/GCP/Azure, Terraform), CI/CD, monitoring, and observability
• Great communication skills, with a mindset of ownership and continuous improvement
