Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join HeyCharge and help build the systems powering our globally scalable EV charging platform. You’ll work across backend services that connect our mobile apps, web tools, and on-site hardware — designing secure, efficient, and reliable systems that keep chargers running smoothly, even offline.

This is not a “backend silo” role — you’ll collaborate across teams to shape architecture, streamline APIs, and automate processes end-to-end. From designing distributed systems on Google Cloud to optimizing data flow between devices and users, you’ll help ensure HeyCharge’s platform scales with our rapidly growing customer base.

While hardware is required for EV charging, it’s incidental to our core offering: our powerful platform simplifies the entire lifecycle of EV charger management. Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure backend systems running on Google Cloud Platform.
• Develop and optimize APIs and data pipelines connecting chargers, mobile apps, and web dashboards.
• You’ll touch everything from user-facing frontend, billing and invoicing, reporting and analytics pipelines, to the magic that ****powers ****our underlying, patented SecureCharge technology.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and hardware teams to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.
• Implement best practices in security, testing, and observability across all backend services.
• Contribute to system architecture, code reviews, and continuous integration/deployment processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring uptime and resilience.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in backend development using TypeScript.
• Experience with Python and/or Rust is a plus.
• Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures, ideally with Google Cloud Platform and especially Firebase.
• Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL), event-driven systems, and microservice design.
• Knowledge of API security, encryption, and authentication patterns.
• Focus on automation, scalability, and maintainability.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a hands-on, collaborative mindset.

Nice to Have

• Experience with IoT, Bluetooth, or Zigbee ecosystems.
• Familiarity with EV charging, energy systems, or connected consumer products.
