Jobbeschreibung

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) is an application-oriented research institute in the fields of high-frequency electronics, photonics and quantum physics. It researches electronic and optical components, modules and systems based on compound semiconductors. These devices are key enablers that address the needs of today’s society in fields like communications, energy, health, and mobility. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.

Our Joint Lab Quantum Photonic Components is world-leading in developing compact and robust diode laser modules for quantum technology applications, including quantum computers and space-based quantum sensors. For this research, we are looking for a scientific employee (m/f/d) to join us as soon as possible in the field of hybrid microintegration and characterization of GaAs diode laser components and modules.

Reference number 20/26

Your tasks

One or more of the following tasks:

  • Microintegration of highly complex diode laser modules and their components using ultra-precise robots and contribution to the ongoing development of the robotic integration environment
  • Characterization of the electro-optical performance of diode laser devices and modules, as well as their components, using measurement methods customized to meet application requirements, including participation in the development of new measurement methods
Your profile
  • A university diploma or master's degree in a field such as physics, physical engineering, photonics, microsystems engineering, electrical engineering (with a focus on optoelectronics), mechanical engineering, or a comparable field
  • Ability to work independently and extremely carefully
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, as well as a high level of personal initiative
  • Very good written and spoken skills in German and English

Experience in at least one of the following areas is also required:

  • Theoretical knowledge of and practical experience in the use of lasers for scientific or telecommunications applications
  • Knowledge of laser theory, laser technology, and optics, as well as experience in laser development
Our offer
  • A versatile position at a leading research institute
  • A workplace with ideal public transportation connections, employer subsidy for a job ticket, and bicycle parking spaces
  • Individual development opportunities and further training
  • 30 vacation days (based on a five-day week), flexible working hours through flexitime, additional flex days and individual working time agreements
  • Services for families: Advice and referral to childcare services, provision of places in a kindergarten in Berlin financed by the institute
  • Access to health services on campus (yoga, running club, movement break and soft skills training) via the Adlershof health network
  • Employment, remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund) including annual special payment, capital-forming benefits (VWL) and company pension scheme (VBL). The wage is paid up to pay group 13 if the relevant requirements are met.

FBH is an equal-opportunity employer and actively supports the compatibility of family and career. Particular attention is paid to gender equality and diversity. The Institute strives to increase the proportion of women in this area. Female candidates are encouraged to apply. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to handicapped candidates. The position can be filled at the earliest possible date and is initially limited to two years. A long-term cooperation is desired.
