Health Safety & Environment Manager (m / f / d)
The HSE Manager operates and maintains the local HSE management system and ensures its effective implementation. The role advises on local HSE strategy, compliance and risk–informed decisions, partnering with site leadership and facilities on ergonomics, fire protection, first aid, emergency preparedness, contractor/visitor safety and sustainability. The manager provides independent assurance through governance audits and performance and oversees office management tasks including contractor/vendor oversight, site security and access administration, maintenance scheduling and business continuity support, while fostering a strong safety culture.
Responsibilities
- HSE governance & compliance: review existing procedural documents, lead modification or creation if applicable; maintain legal register; deliver annual SHE Improvement Plan; manage record retention.
- Safety training & awareness: plan and roll out safety training via the AZ training system; support onboarding process of new employees (e.g. providing badge building access tools) and conduct initial safety instructions; lead targeted safety communications.
- Office risk management: maintain a safe, compliant and resilient workplace by identifying hazards, assessing risks, implementing controls and reviewing effectiveness on a defined cycle.
- Incidents & inspections: administer accident/incident/nearmiss reporting; support investigations and root‑cause analysis; conduct safety walks and ensure CAPA closure.
- Contractor control: verify qualifications, risk assessment and method statement and permits; brief service providers on AZ HSE expectations; monitor compliance and escalate non‑conformances.
- Emergency preparedness: coordinate evacuation drills; maintain emergency response plans; ensure fire safety arrangements and coverage of wardens/first aiders.
- Occupational health & wellbeing: coordinate medical checks; manage ergonomic assessments and reasonable adjustments; liaise with occupational physician and works council.
- Environmental management: oversee waste segregation/recycling and compliant disposals; support energy/water efficiency and behavioural campaigns; track basic environmental KPIs.
- FM operations oversight: coordinate external facility service provider and monitor delivery of hard/soft services (HVAC, electrical, cleaning, waste, office moves); set priorities; monitor KPIs/SLAs.
- Projects & landlord interface: coordinate facility projects; manage operational exchange with external facility service provider and landlord; interface on lease matters (space obligations, alterations, reinstatement).
- Budget & procurement: plan/manage HSE/IFM budget; approve invoices in Coupa; oversee vendor onboarding and POs; ensure cost control and variance tracking.
- Site operations security & change: coordinate access/CCTV/alarming/external security vendor; ensure preventive maintenance and statutory inspections; retain records; assess HSE/IFM impacts of changes and secure approvals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, high school degree or commercial apprenticeship (kaufmännische Ausbildung).
- Certified Occupational Health & Safety representative (Sicherheitsbeauftragter) per 22 SGB VII and Certified First Aider and Fire Protection Assistant.
- Proven HSE experience or strong interest with clear ambition to grow in the field.
- Initial experience with occupational safety laws/regulations or strong willingness to rapidly build proficiency.
- Strong awareness of safety data protection and compliance; readiness to follow and shape policies/SOPs.
- Solid office management skills; proactive in training/compliance; proficient in MS Office and SAP/Coupa for POs and invoices.
- Strong project‑management, communication and organizational planning abilities.
- Proven confidentiality and integrity; collaborative self‑driven team player comfortable with FM, HR, works council and external providers.
- Ability to take a pragmatic approach in problem‑solving and a desire to improve processes.
- Fluent in German and English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
