Job summary

RISS, in collaboration with Rheinmetall, seeks a Security Systems Engineer to design and implement end-to-end security for reconnaissance satellite constellations. You will protect in-space assets and ground control infrastructure, manage facility clearances, and address vulnerabilities across hardware, software, and links.

The role demands experience in aerospace security, encryption, and defense-grade standards, with strong collaboration across engineering teams to secure telemetry and command

Your Mission as Security Systems Engineer

• Design and implement – together with suppliers and industrial partners – the end-to-end security architecture for reconnaissance satellite constellations.
• Protect both in-space orbital assets and on-ground control infrastructure.
• Handle facility security clearances and compliance regulations.
• Assess vulnerabilities across hardware, software, and communication links.
• Ensure compliance with the Customer’s requirements
• Work in close cooperation with the engineering teams to implement secure command and telemetry protocols.

What Qualifications You Should Have

• Degree in aerospace engineering, cybersecurity, computer science, mathematics or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of encryption, secure networking, and threat modeling.
• Experience with aerospace systems security or satellite communications.
• Familiarity with government or defense facility security clearance standards and accreditation processes.
• 5+ years of hands-on security experience (or engineering experience in a related role). Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping technical projects from start to finish.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills to share ideas clearly with both technical and non-technical team members. Collaborative mindset with a willingness to support peers, join code reviews, and share knowledge.
