THESE ARE YOUR TASKS:

A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof. Fabio Caruso at the University of Rostock. The project focuses on developing the theory and simulation workflows for describing light-induced phase transitions. The postdoctoral researcher will co-develop new numerical approaches for ultrafast dynamics simulations within the EPW code package and carry out numerical simulations on high-performance computing clusters. The position includes publishing research results and presenting them at international conferences. The candidate’s research qualifications consist of developing and implementing a computational method for the coupled non-equilibrium dynamics of electrons and phonons, which will be released as software, along with at least three publications in internationally renowned journals and a self-authored grant proposal submitted for external funding. It also involves teaching: tutoring exercise classes for Bachelor's physics courses (4 hours per week during the semester), including designing, preparing, and marking student exercises.

THIS MAKES YOU A GOOD FIT:
  • completed scientific university degree (Diplom, Master, or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a comparable field
  • completed doctoral degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a comparable field
  • several years of experience with DFT-based first-principles simulations, calculations on HPC clusters
  • very good knowledge of the formalism of electron-phonon interactions and polaron theory
  • very good knowledge of electron-phonon interaction theory and/or many-body theory, and their application in first-principles simulations
  • excellent knowledge of English, spoken and written
  • willingness to work seriously and with commitment on a project of one's own scientific qualification
  • desirable:
    • a competitive publication output, compatible with the career stage
    • personal, task-relevant qualities (e.g., excellent punctuality and working to deadlines, communication skills for presenting research results, teamwork ability for working in interdisciplinary research groups, etc.)
