Unser Profil

Research aim at our institute is to bridge the gap between simulation-based and experimental investigations for a variety of engineering problems. Focus is the development and assessment of both physical models and numerical methods. In most cases, the numerical methods are connected to complex applications. We always work at the edge of the current state of the art in computational mechanics, focusing not only on classical numerical methods such as finite elements but also on recent trends such as machine learning. The position being advertised expands our activities in the field of applied quantum methods for computational science and engineering, and is part of the RWTH collaborative project Q-KOMPASS.

Please refer to www.cats.rwth-aachen.de for further information.

Ihr Profil

Requirement for this position is a University degree (Master or equivalent) in Computational Engineering Science, engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or a similar subject with a superior academic record. Strong knowledge of either classical numerical methods, machine learning for engineering problems, or quantum algorithms is sought. Openness to developing digital learning formats, particularly MOOCs, with an emphasis on didactic design and accessible knowledge transfer. Practical programming experience in Python is an advantage. Familiarity with the UNIX operating system would be ideal. We expect you to contribute to general tasks at the institute, such as teaching and advising master or project theses.

Ihre Aufgaben

Simulation techniques have become an important instrument for the development, design, and certification of engineering components. Since its foundation in 2004, our institute conducts active research at the interface between mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, and computer science. The proposed project aims at developing new quantum-accelerated computational methods for solving transient engineering problems, building upon recent developments in classical computational engineering and applied quantum methods. The concrete goals of the project are

  • Definition of test cases and generation of models with differentiable quantum circuits.
  • Development of alternative approaches to solve transient PDEs on quantum computers.

The project is part of the RWTH Aachen Collaborative project Q-KOMPASS. Approximately a quarter of the position is dedicated to the preparation of a massive open online course (MOOC). We value your enthusiastic and dependable involvement in all associated activities.
