Zusammenfassung

RWTH Aachen sucht eine Doktorandenstelle im Bereich Industrielle Biotechnologie. Die Stelle ist Teil der Industrial Biotechnology Group und bietet 26,33 Stunden pro Woche in einem befristeten Vertrag von 1 Jahr mit Aussicht auf Verlängerung bis insgesamt 3 Jahre gemäß Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz.

Das Gehalt richtet sich nach dem TV-L EG 13. Die Position ermöglicht die Promotion im Rahmen der Tätigkeit und die Mitarbeit an innovativen biotechnologischen Produktionsprozessen.

Qualifikationen

• Abgeschlossenes Masterstudium in einem relevanten Fach (bio/Prozessingenieurwesen, Biotechnologie, Maschinenbau oder vergleichbar).
• Ausgeprägte Biotechnologie- bzw. Bioprocess-Engineering-Kenntnisse und Interesse an Weiterentwicklung.
• Erste Erfahrungen im Bioprozess-Skalieren oder biologische Verwertung von Abfallströmen vorteilhaft, aber nicht zwingend.

Aufgaben

• Eigenständige Arbeiten zum Thema Optimierung und Skalierung von Bioprozessen für eine nachhaltige Kunststoffwirtschaft.
• Publikation von wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten in renommierten Fachzeitschriften.
• Vertretung der Arbeitsgruppe und der Forschungsprojekte auf Konferenzen.
• Betreuung von Abschlussarbeiten und Wissenstransfer durch Lehre.
• Mitwirkung an Forschungsanträgen.

The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term for 1 year.
An extension to a total of 3 years is planned.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 26,33 hours.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.

The Chair of Biochemical Engineering (AVT.BioVT) led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jørgen Magnus is part of the closely connected network of the Aachen Chemical Engineering (AVT). We are one of the world's leading chairs in the development of new methods and techniques for innovative biotechnological production processes and cooperate at national and international level with universities and research institutions, as well as with renowned companies. Our core competence is focused on two specialist areas: industrial and pharmaceutical biotechnology.

Our research is centered on the optimization and development of a variety of cutting-edge biotechnological processes, implementing innovative and advanced measurement technology. Through efficient production processes, we aim to advance bioprocess engineering as an engineering science. Within the group of industrial biotechnology, we aim to contribute to the transition to a circular bioeconomy and the reduction of CO2 emissions. Within the pharmaceutical biotechnology group, our focus is on developing innovative production technologies for biologics in the fields of cell and gene therapy and protein therapeutics.

The open position is part of the Industrial Biotechnology Group. In the frame of the project, innovative biological production processes for a sustainable plastics economy will be developed and scaled up to pilot scale. The basis for this is provided by measurement systems established at the chair and overarching infrastructure, which can be used to evaluate and then optimize specific bioprocess parameters.

Ihr Profil

• Completed Master’s degree or equivalent in the field of (bio)process engineering, biotechnology, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
• Strong expertise in biotechnology and/or (bio)process engineering and eagerness to further develop your knowledge in this field
• First experience with bioprocess scale-up or the biological conversion of waste streams would be advantageous but is not mandatory
• Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and strong teamwork skills
• Independent work with determination
• Fluency in English is a prerequisite. Fluency in German is desired.
