Job summary

Evotec in Hamburg seeks a scientist to develop and implement cellular assays for target validation, using primary cells and cell lines. The role includes transfection, genome editing with CRISPR/Cas9, and establishing plate- and image-based readouts.

The candidate will plan and perform cellular, molecular biology, and biochemical experiments, ensuring data quality and timely delivery. Fluency in English is expected; German is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship (BTA/CTA/MTA) or BSc/MSc in biological sciences/in vitro pharmacology or related subjects.
• Hands-on experience with cellular assays, ideally in pharma/biotech/CRO.
• Experience with cell culture, transfection, and basic molecular/biochemical techniques.

Job description

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement cellular assays for target validation (primary cell culture, cell lines, transfection, virus mediated gene transfer)

• Use and establish plate- and image-based readouts

• Use and establish genome editing methodologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 paired with various cargo types and delivery methods.

• Plan, perform and analyze cellular, molecular biology and biochemical laboratory experiments (e.g. Protein, DNA and RNA isolation and analysis, immunocytochemistry and imaging)

• Manage project demands ensuring quality and timely delivery of data

• Record experiments independently in electronic lab notebook

Qualifications:

• Successfully completed apprenticeship (BTA/CTA/MTA), BSc. or MSc. in the field of biological sciences/in vitro pharmacology or related subjects.

• Work experience with cellular assays, preferably in a Pharma, Biotech, or a CRO setting

• Substantial hands-on experience of cell culture assays (cultivation & transfection of cell lines or primary cells, immunocytochemistry etc.)

• Experience with standard molecular and biochemical techniques (basic DNA, RNA and protein assays)

• Experience with transfection and genome editing methods is a plus

• Experience with handling and isolation of primary cells and possession of a FELASA B certificate is a plus

• Well-organized, dynamic personality with high levels of drive, enthusiasm, and commitment.

• Excellent team spirit and capability of working with a wide degree of autonomy and independence

• Ability to work in a cross-functional team

• Fluency in written and spoken English, German advantageous
