Job Summary

Join the world‑class safety culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and support the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Safety Engineer. You will own the Health and Safety function of your region, improving safety, advancing culture, and protecting employees. You will collaborate with data center engineers who work with electrical switching equipment, large‑scale air handling mechanical systems, and critical IT gear.

You will partner with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health‑safety program. You will work closely with employees and contractors to achieve health and safety goals and enhance our already strong safety culture. You will also partner with construction managers to identify and mitigate risks before live operations and advocate for safe changes as new infrastructure and tools are introduced.

This role is for an experienced Safety Specialist or Safety Engineer who supports safety operations for Data Centers across the region and works with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance the safety of operations. You will collaborate with onsite physical security, vendors, compliance officers, risk management, and fire/life safety systems.

You must be an effective communicator, delivering consistent verbal, written, and public‑speaking messages. You will advise, instruct, and train personnel on safety policies and procedures, and help teams incorporate and improve safety standards at their sites. You will report to the Regional Safety Manager – EMEA and be responsible for enhancing safety of operations and construction. Some domestic and international travel is required.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Implement safety standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Provision and management of training: Induction, refresher and manual handling training as required, develop and deliver training/presentations to support achievement of H&S objectives, and manage the training database to ensure all H&S training requirements are fulfilled.
  • Collaborate with outside vendors (general contractors, sub‑contractors, emergency services) for operations and construction.
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of global safety programs and local regulatory legislation.
  • Develop and review safety plans for on‑site emergencies, special events, and other unique safety situations.
  • Perform safety data analysis and create benchmarks.
  • Ensure safety record keeping and provide accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
  • Consult and work with compliance teams on safety regulation interpretations and investigations.
  • Develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to risks and prevent injury.
  • Adapt to fast‑paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, strategy, and deadlines.
  • Work as part of a team and provide safety support to regions outside of the local cluster when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • University or engineering degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, or Risk Analysis.
  • Minimum 2+ years of field experience in Safety.
  • Must be a national of an EU member state.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in implementing safety programs, processes, and procedural documentation.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple legal jurisdictions/countries in EMEA.
  • Experience in data center, manufacturing, construction, or similar industry with a mix of full‑time employees and third‑party contractors.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and monitor compliance with health and safety laws in various countries.
