Job summary

Heraeus Medevio in Germany is seeking an R&D Engineer for Medical Devices (m/f/d) on a fixed-term contract of 12-15 months. The role focuses on developing interventional medical devices and contributing to patient safety and therapeutic outcomes worldwide.

You will work with cross-functional, international teams on concept to manufacturing transfer, build prototypes, define specifications, and ensure compliant documentation in our PLM system, while occasionally travelling to customer sites.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or science with relevance to medical devices.
• Experience with mechanical medical devices and prototypes.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturability and prototyping processes.
• Familiarity with Good Documentation Practice and regulatory standards (ISO 13485, FDA).
• Willingness to travel occasionally to customers or study sites.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to customer-specific product development from concept freeze to transfer to manufacturing.
• Work in interventional devices including vascular access devices and catheters using state-of-the-art tech.
• Collaborate with cross-functional, international teams and external partners.
• Develop and build prototypes at concept and hands-on stages.
• Develop complete product specifications and liaise with suppliers.
• Develop test methods and perform tests to characterize design and process outputs.
• Ensure full compliant documentation in the PLM system according to regulatory standards.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of interventional medical devices that enhance patient safety and therapeutic outcomes worldwide.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Contribute to customer specific product development projects from concept freeze through detailed design development and transfer to manufacturing.
• Working in many areas of interventional devices, including vascular access devices, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic catheters and complex delivery systems, applying state-of-the-art technology.
• Working collaboratively in cross functional and international teams including program managers, design and process engineers, prototyping specialists, and RA/QA representatives — as well as with external business partners and customers.
• Developing and building prototypes — both at the conceptual drafting stage and hands on
• Developing complete product specifications and working with suppliers on purchasing specifications
• Developing test methods and performing tests to characterize design and process outputs
• Ensuring full and compliant documentation in our paperless PLM system according to regulatory frameworks, standards, and industry best practices

Your profile:

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with a focus on Mechanical, Plastics, or Biomedical Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Strong technical expertise in mechanical medical devices, applied materials, functional product design, design for manufacturability, and prototyping.
• 3 years of experience in the interventional device industry preferred.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
• Familiarity with Good Documentation Practice, Design Control, and relevant standards such as ISO 13485 and FDA requirements.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to customers or clinical study locations worldwide.
