Job summary

Roche Diagnostics GmbH in Germany is seeking a Project Engineer Automation IT/OT to safeguard and advance our state-of-the-art production and development facilities. You will design interfaces that interlock automation and IT systems, supporting future-proof infrastructure.

The role is based with the Engineering Mannheim and Penzberg team; travel up to 30% between sites and beyond as needed. We expect a technical degree with GMP experience, strong project management skills, and fluency in German

Qualifications

• Completed technical degree (Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Automation Engineering) – Master's degree with 5–7 years or Bachelor's degree with 6–8 years of experience, or equivalent qualification.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry with GMP knowledge.
• Proven experience in project management and control methodologies within process automation and IT.
• Strong interpersonal skills and leadership within matrix organizations.
• Fluent written and spoken German and English.
• Travel up to 30%, mainly between Mannheim and Penzberg sites.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, commission, qualify, and hand over automation and IT projects; advise colleagues and project managers on technical concepts and requirements.
• Independently manage small to medium CAPEX projects in automation and IT.
• Select external providers, coordinate assignments, and build a future-oriented network.
• Support troubleshooting and identify new technologies for cost-effective process improvements.
• Contribute to the Engineering Community and cross-department knowledge transfer.
• Travel up to 30% as part of the role.

Responsibilities | What Awaits You

• Subject Matter Expertise: As a technical expert, you are responsible for the planning, implementation, commissioning, qualification, and handover in the field of automation and IT. You support and advise colleagues and project managers as an expert on technical concepts and review user requirements.
• Project Management with Creative Scope: You independently manage small to medium-sized local CAPEX projects in the area of automation and IT.
• Partner Network & Vendor Management: You technically select external service providers, coordinate their assignments, and build a strong, future-oriented network.
• Troubleshooting & Innovation: You support troubleshooting and identify new technologies as well as cost-effective processes to continuously improve our site.
• Active Exchange: You actively contribute to the Engineering Community and promote cross-departmental knowledge transfer.
• Travel: You see travel activity of up to 30% as an enriching opportunity.

Qualifications | What You Bring

• Solid Education: Completed technical degree (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Automation Engineering) – Master's degree with 5–7 years or Bachelor's degree with 6–8 years of experience. Alternatively, a vocational technical qualification with advanced training (Master Craftsman/Certified Technician) and 7–8 years of experience.
• Industry Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry as well as sound GMP knowledge.
• Technical Knowledge: Proven experience in project management and control methodologies within process automation and IT.
• Communication & Team Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration, and leadership within matrix organizations.
• Language Skills: Fluent written and spoken German and English.
• Travel: Business travel (up to 30%), mainly between the Mannheim and Penzberg sites, is viewed as an enrichment.
