The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Didactics of the Social Sciences. The position will be based in the School of Human and Social Sciences at the Institute for Sociology. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

• As the future holder of the position, you will conduct empirical research on topics in social science didactics and address the connection between the disciplines of political science, sociology and economics in teaching. A connection in research is desirable.
• You have a high-ranking publication profile, particularly in peer-reviewed journals. Previous success in acquiring third-party funding is desirable.
• As an important location for teacher training in North Rhine-Westphalia, we expect a high level of didactic competence and broad teaching experience, especially in the field of subject didactics in the social sciences. The professorship supervises and contributes to all teacher training courses in the Social Sciences teaching unit (primary schools, secondary schools, comprehensive schools, grammar schools, special schools).
• There is the possibility of networking with other didactic professorships within the school as well as across schools. We expect the willingness to cooperate and actively participate in the development of joint research foci, e.g., on sustainability, participation or digitalization, as well as the ability to connect to the fields of activity of the University of Wuppertal, e.g. Next Generation Learning, Teaching, Knowledge Transfer and Shaping Sustainable Societal Transformation.
• In addition, initial experience in research transfer for networking internal and external university partners is desirable.
• Due to the exclusively German-language teaching degree programme in the Social Sciences teaching unit, non-native speaker applicants must also provide proof of German language skills at level C1.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Completed degree (Master of Education or equivalent from a university or university of applied sciences) in the subjects of social sciences, sociology, political science, economics, business and economics education or equivalent.
• Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, with a subject-related didactic topic relevant to the advertised position.
• Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
• Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure.
