Zalando fulfills more than a hundred million customer orders every year, with increasing volumes. Fulfillment Core builds and operates systems central to Zalando’s platform strategy, ensuring timely, efficient, and accurate delivery of over 185 million orders annually.

The role involves complex processes such as warehouse location planning, stock placement, process optimization, and managing diverse fulfillment configurations to meet various targets.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead initiatives to transform Zalando's supply chain, improve customer experience, and develop self-serve products using Optimization or Simulation techniques. You will build and develop a new team, collaborating with talented colleagues to drive innovation and resilience in supply chain operations.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO

• Report to the Head of Applied Science for Network Optimizations and serve as a senior leader, collaborating with stakeholders across Logistic Operations, B2B units, and Applied Science teams. Develop advanced mathematical models to optimize product availability, ensuring the right products are in the right locations at the right times while respecting network constraints.
• Engage with senior scientists and engineers to develop a long-term vision and strategy for Network Optimizations, interacting confidently with senior management.
• Optimize business processes such as inventory placement, warehouse processes, and order strategies using techniques like Discrete Event Simulation, Mixed-Integer Linear Programming, and metaheuristics.
• Contribute to other research initiatives within the business unit and participate in the Applied Scientists community through meetings, reading groups, and mentoring.
