Zalando is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the ZEOS B2B Platform in Berlin. You will shape the common platform, designing foundational REST services and microservices that power partner-facing and internal products.

You will bridge business requirements with robust Java-based engineering, drive architectural decisions, and mentor the principal community while ensuring compliance, extensibility, and best-in-class operations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a Principal Engineer or Solutions Architect in cloud environments.
• Experience with Micro Frontends at scale and modern web stack.
• Strong knowledge of AWS and Kubernetes with security and auth considerations (OpenID/Okta).

Responsibilities

• Architect scalable ecosystems for high-traffic portals and internal tools using React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
• Guide modular landscapes with Micro Frontend and SPA architectures within the ZEOS partner landscape.
• Translate business opportunities into scalable, cost-efficient designs compliant with industry standards.
• Guide deployment strategies within AWS and Kubernetes environments with robust security configurations.
• Drive cross-area architectural consistency and elevate development processes (CI/CD, testing, Design System maturity).
• Support multi-disciplinary teams and align stakeholders on technical integrity.

As a Principal Software Engineer at ZEOS, you will be a key architect of the common platform and ecosystem that powers both partner-facing and internal products. • Architect Scalable Ecosystems: Design and drive the technical vision for high-traffic customer portals and internal tools using React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
• Master Modular Landscapes: Guide the transition and optimization of our Micro Frontend (MFE) and SPA architectures, ensuring seamless integration across the ZEOS partner landscape.
• Bridge Business & Technical Needs: Translate complex business opportunities into Solution Designs that are not only scalable and cost-efficient but also strictly compliant with industry standards.
• Support Infrastructure & Security: Guide deployment strategies within AWS and Kubernetes environments, ensuring robust Web Security through the implementation of Okta/OpenID and sophisticated proxy/gateway configurations.
• Foster Technical Excellence: Act as a core member of our Principal Community, driving cross-area architectural consistency and elevating development processes through CI/CD, high test coverage, and Design System (DS) maturity.
• Align & Empower Delivery: Support multi-disciplinary teams (Engineers, Designers, PMs) and manage high-level stakeholders to ensure project alignment and technical integrity.

• Experienced Strategic Leader: You bring 3+ years of experience as a Principal Engineer or Solutions Architect, with a proven track record of leading complex, multi-team projects in cloud environments.
• Deep Frontend Expertise: You possess expert-level knowledge of the modern web stack (React, TS, Webpack) and have deep experience managing the complexities of Micro Frontends at scale.
• Cloud & Infrastructure Knowledge: You are comfortable navigating AWS and Kubernetes and have a strong grasp of networking fundamentals, including reverse-proxies and API gateways.
• Security-Conscious Mindset: You have practical experience implementing modern authentication flows (OpenID/Okta) and protecting applications against sophisticated web vulnerabilities.
• Agile Champion: You thrive in an Agile environment, owning the full development lifecycle from initial discovery to CI/CD deployment and automated testing.
• Empathetic Mentor & Communicator: You excel at translating "tech-speak" for stakeholders and possess the leadership clarity needed to mentor senior engineers through difficult architectural decisions.
• Balanced Practitioner: You are a master of delegation and high-level system thinking, but you aren't afraid to get hands-on when a critical technical challenge requires your direct expertise.
