Job summary

Die Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) sucht eine/n Postdoctoral Researcher im Bereich Mikrobiologie, Molekularbiologie oder Biotechnologie in Berlin. Die Stelle ist in Vollzeit oder Teilzeit ausgeschrieben und zunächst bis zum 30.11.2029 befristet.

Zu den Aufgaben gehören die Durchführung mikrobiologischer, molekularbiologischer und biotechnologischer Forschung, Planen und Analysieren von Experimenten zum PE-Abbau durch Bakterien, sowie Transcriptomik- und Proteomik-Analysen

Qualifications

• Abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium (Diplom/ Master) in Mikrobiologie, Molekularbiologie, Biotechnologie o.Ä. mit PhD.
• Fundierte Erfahrung in der Molekularbiologie mit Bakterien und biotechnologischen Anwendungen.
• Routiniert in mikrobiologischen Techniken, einschließlich Sterilarbeiten, Bakterienkultivierung und Bioreaktorbetrieb.
• Fundierte Kenntnisse in Methoden der Molekularbiologie wie PCR, qRT-PCR, RNA/DNA Reinigung und Klonierung.
• Erfahrung in der Analyse von Proteom- und Metatranskriptom-Daten.
• Kenntnisse in molekularbiologischer Software und Bioinformatik-Tools.
• Erfahrungen im Verfassen von Förderanträgen, wissenschaftlichen Publikationen und Übersichtsartikeln.
• Gute Englischkenntnisse schriftlich und mündlich.
• Gute Kommunikations- und Informationsmanagementfähigkeiten und Teamfähigkeit.

Responsibilities

• Mikrobiologische, molekularbiologische und biotechnologische Forschung durchführen, um die bakterielle Abbaurate von Polyethylen (PE) zu untersuchen und zu verbessern.
• Planen, Durchführen und Analysieren von Experimenten zur Kultivierung und Charakterisierung bakterieller Konsortien, die PE abbauen können.
• Entwerfen, Durchführen und Auswerten Transcriptomik- und Proteomik-Analysen zur Aufklärung der molekularen Abbauwege von PE in Bakterien.
• Entwickeln und Optimieren von PE-Abbauprozessen und Unterstützung der Skalierung bis zur Pilotgröße (bis zu 5 L Bioreaktor).
• Wissenschaftliche Befunde für Veröffentlichungen, Konferenzbeiträge und Förderanträge vorbereiten und kommunizieren.

Your responsibilities include

• Perform microbiological, molecular biological, and biotechnological research to investigate and enhance the bacterial degradation of polyethylene (PE).
• Plan, execute, and analyze experiments for the cultivation and characterization of bacterial consortia capable of degrading PE.
• Design, conduct, and evaluate transcriptomic and proteomic analyses to elucidate the molecular degradation pathways of PE in bacteria.
• Develop and optimize PE degradation processes and support scale‑up to pilot scale (up to 5 L bioreactor).
• Prepare and communicate scientific findings for publications, conference presentations, and grant proposals.

Your qualifications

• Completed university degree (Diploma or Master’s) in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field, with a PhD.
• Proven specialization and extensive hands‑on experience in molecular biology with bacteria and/or biotechnological applications.
• Proficiency in microbiological techniques, including sterile work, bacterial cultivation, and bioreactor operation.
• Solid expertise in molecular biology methods such as PCR, qRT‑PCR, RNA/DNA purification and handling, and cloning.
• Demonstrated experience in analyzing proteome and metatranscriptome data.
• Working knowledge of molecular biology software and bioinformatics tools.
• Experience in writing grant proposals, scientific publications, and review articles.
• Good written and spoken English skills.
• Good communication and information management skills, a goal‑oriented and structured approach to work, initiative, commitment, and ability to take on tasks, decisiveness and the ability to make decisions, as well as the ability to work well in a team and a willingness to cooperate.
