Zusammenfassung

European XFEL sucht einen hochmotivierten Postdoktoranden zur Unterstützung eines joint Teams von Wissenschaftlern und Ingenieuren aus European XFEL und DESY. Sie entwickeln den XFELO-Demonstrator weiter, planen Experimente und analysieren Daten in einer internationalen Umgebung.

Zu Ihren Aufgaben gehören das Design eines-tunbaren XFELO-Geräts, das Durchführen interner und kooperativer Experimente und die Mitwirkung an Publikationen sowie an Workshops zur XFELO-Forschung und -Technologie.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in Physics, Accelerator/Photon Science, Engineering oder einem vergleichbaren Feld (bis Startdatum abgeschlossen).
• Nachweis über hochwertige Forschungsarbeiten und Veröffentlichungen.
• Praxis in FELs, optischen Kavitäten/Oszillatoren, X-ray Optics oder Beamline-Instrumentation ist wünschenswert.
• Fundiertes Verständnis von Röntgenoptik und FEL-/Beschleunigerphysik im Kontext von XFELO.
• Starke Datenanalyse- und Programmierkenntnisse (Python; MATLAB und/oder C/C++ von Vorteil).
• Exzellente Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift; interdisziplinäre Teamarbeit bevorzugt.

Aufgaben

• XFELO-Demonstrator-Setup weiterentwickeln, optimieren und betreiben (Hardware, Beamline-Komponenten, Experimente).
• Beitragen zum konzeptionellen Design eines anpassbaren XFELO-Geräts, inklusive Leistungsstudien und Schnittstellendefinitionen.
• XFELO-bezogene Experimente planen, vorbereiten und durchführen; interne und externe Nutzergruppen.
• Daten analysieren, Ergebnisse dokumentieren und zu Publikationen, Berichten und technischen Notizen beitragen.
• Workshops und Meetings zu XFELO-Wissenschaft, -Technologie und -Entwicklung mitorganisieren und unterstützen.

To advance the XFELO program to the next level, we are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to support a joint team of scientists and engineers from European XFEL and DESY.

For our X-Ray Optics group we are looking for an The Position Further develop, optimize, and operate the existing XFELO demonstrator setup (hardware, beamline components, and experimental procedures).

Contribute to the conceptual design of a tunable XFELO device, including performance studies, technical trade-offs, and interface definitions.

Plan, prepare, and execute XFELO-related experiments
- both internal measurements and experiments in collaboration with internal and external user groups.

Analyze experimental data, document results, and contribute to publications, internal reports, and technical notes.

Co-organize and support workshops and meetings related to XFELO science, technology, and future development (agenda, speakers, documentation, follow-up actions).

Requirements

• PhD in Physics, Accelerator/Photon Science, Engineering, or a closely related field (completed by the start date).
• Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-quality research (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, conference contributions).
• Hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas: free-electron lasers (FELs), optical cavities/oscillators, X-ray optics, accelerator or beam diagnostics, beamline instrumentation, or experimental operation at a large-scale user facility.
• Solid understanding of X-ray optics and fundamentals of FEL and accelerator physics relevant to XFELO operation.
• Strong data analysis and scientific programming skills (e.g., Python; MATLAB and/or C/C++ are an advantage).
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken) and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary, international team.
