Jobbeschreibung

Surrounded by the unique natural beauty of the Black Forest, Furtwangen University offers a post‑doctoral position as a Molecular Microbiologist (m/f/d) specializing in Human Microbiomics within the research project “MiMEndo” at the Institute of Precision Medicine, Faculty III: Health, Medical and Life Sciences.

The position is a fixed‑term contract ending on 31 December 2028, full time (39.5 hours per week). Employment conditions and pay are defined by the German TV‑L collective bargaining agreement. The primary workplace is the campus Villingen‑Schwenningen with the possibility to perform related tasks at other campuses. Earliest possible start: 1 February 2026.

Your Tasks
  • Conduct NGS‑based molecular microbiome analyses of diverse human samples to investigate links between endometriosis and the human microbiome.
  • Correlate microbiome data with patient metabolome and health‑related metadata to enable improved diagnosis of endometriosis.
  • Collaborate with partners (University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern, MVZ Institute for Microecology Herborn, and two endometriosis clinics) to perform multidisciplinary research.
Your Background and Qualifications
  • PhD or doctorate in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioanalytics, or related fields.
  • Proven experience with modern microbiome‑omics technologies (metataxonomics, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics).
  • Strong bioinformatics, programming and computer skills (R, Python, QIIME, etc.).
  • Excellent written and spoken English; at least competent German language proficiency.
