Jobbeschreibung

Physics Engineer or Physicist (m/f/d)

with main focus on Corrector Development for Transmission Electron Microscopy.

Corrected Electron Optical Systems GmbH

Heidelberg, Germany

The Corrected Electron Optical Systems GmbH, founded in 1996 and located at Heidelberg, Germany, concentrates on research, development, and production of advanced optical components for electron microscopy such as correctors for spherical and chromatic aberrations, monochromators and imaging energy filters. ln the field of aberration correctors for TEM, STEM, and SEM we are the technology leader world wide. Our main focus is on research projects for our industrial and academic partners and the regular fabrication of our well-established products for various microscope manufacturers.

We offer an attractive permanent job in an innovative medium-sized company with flat hierarchies and the stimulating scientific environment of high-end electron optics instrumentation with motivated and friendly colleagues and good social and financial conditions. Employees optionally meet in small groups for spare time activities (music, sports, gardening, …) as well as for regular company celebrations.

  • Financial support for childcare, public transport, leasing of bicycles, and employee profit sharing is granted.

Job Description

ln our team of optics designers, electronics and mechanics engineers, and software developers you will test and develop new corrector instrumentation and related techniques and qualify the optics and electronics at the edge of physical feasibility. You will be responsible for the factory alignment of advanced aberration correctors for transmission electron microscopes, search and salve for performance bottlenecks and – if necessary – also help with failure analysis and technical service of prototypes in the field. Step by step you will take over responsibility for the project flow and the communication to our partners. Your training on the job will be accompanied by CEOS’ senior scientists.

Qualifications

The position requires a distinct background (PhD or comparable) in physics or engineering (e.g. electronics) combined with a hands‑on attitude to efficiently tackle problems and work towards solutions. Good communication skills and a responsible and organized way of working are as important as a sound mathematical education and good computer skills. Practical experience with development projects at a transmission electron microscope and a firm understanding of electron optics are essential. Technical know‑how on electronics development is required, hands‑on experience with vacuum technology is desirable. A good command of the English language and the willingness to learn German are necessary.
