Zusammenfassung

The University Hospital of Cologne is seeking a PhD Student (f/m/x) for an embedded project in the CRC 1530 on pathogenic mechanisms in B cell malignancies. The position is fully funded, limited until 31 December 2029, with salary based on TV-L EG 13 and 38.5 hours per week.

You will perform molecular and cellular biology work on patient samples and models, visualize data, and present results. Close collaboration with clinical and computational teams is expected.

Qualifikationen

  • MSc or equivalent in biology-related field.
  • Basic computational skills desirable.
  • Experience in molecular and cellular biology; animal experimentation desirable.
  • Solid understanding of immunology and oncology mechanisms.

Aufgaben

  • Perform cell biological, molecular genetics, and immunological methods in primary samples, preclinical in vitro and murine in vivo models.
  • Data visualization and communication including oral presentations.
  • Collaborate with medical and computational colleagues.

Your profile
  • A completed university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent)
    in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field
  • Basic computational skills are desirable
  • Previous training and hands-on experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques; experience with animal experimentation is desirable
  • A solid understanding of immunology and the molecular mechanisms underlying oncology
  • Proficiency in English
  • A high level of motivation, genuine curiosity, and

    by strong communication and organizational skills,
    as well as a ability and commitment to work within

This is the University Hospital of Cologne: Everything but ordinary.

We are looking for a PhD for a fully-funded (DFG)
basic/translational science project on the molecular and
cellular mechanisms of the microenvironment in chronic
lymphocytic leukemia. This project is embedded into the
collaborative research center (CRC) 1530 – "Elucidation and targeting of pathogenic mechanisms in B cell malignancies" and will be co-mentored by Dr. Laura Beckmann and Prof. Michael Hallek. As a part of this interdisciplinary research consortium, we will utilize primary patient CLL samples as well as pre-clinical in vitro and murine in vivo models to interfere with the lymphoma supportive microenvironmental niche by perturbing
microenvironmental signaling within the microenvironment and CLL cells. This PhD project focuses on investigating the role of the tumor microenvironment in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The research
combines molecular and cellular biology approaches with in vivo murine models, novel spatial technologies, and clinical correlatives to elucidate the mechanisms governing CLL progression. The project is jointly supervised by two principal investigators with complementary expertise in basic and translational lymphoma research. The laboratory is based at the CECAD Research Center on the Medical
Campus of the University of Cologne, providing a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment with access to state-of-the-art technologies.
