European XFEL invites a physicist to develop rotational-invariant analysis for x-ray scattering and single-particle imaging. You will work with the Theory group to advance angular cross-correlation techniques and interpret XFEL datasets, primarily from European XFEL, contributing to software for invariant-based structural analysis and disseminating results through publications and talks.

For our Theory group we are looking for an

• Develop and apply rotational-invariant methods for x-ray scattering and single-particle imaging at XFELs, with a focus on biological and nanoengineered particles
• Advance theoretical and computational approaches for extracting and analyzing angular cross-correlation functions and rotational invariants in x-ray scattering
• Analyze and interpret experimental XFEL datasets—primarily from the European XFEL—and participate in relevant beamtimes and collaborative research projects with internal and external user groups
• Contribute to the development of in-house software for invariant-based structural analysis and disseminate research results through scientific publications, conference presentations, and a PhD thesis.

• A master’s degree in physics or a related discipline
• A strong background in mathematics
• Programming skills (Python or C/C++ will be considered an asset)
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Strong communication skills and an interest in collaborating with experimentalists and theorists
