Huawei's Kepler Research Center in Jena is seeking a PhD Student in Camera Optical Design to join a cross-disciplinary team.

You will conduct literature analysis, study stray light paths, and explore AI-assisted design methods while collaborating with international experts. Strong English and a background in optics, CS, AI, or math are required, with Python experience considered a plus.

PhD Student - Camera Optical Design(m/f/d)

Your mission

• Conduct literature analysis and technical insights to identify challenges and future trends in optical modeling

• Study the optical paths that generate stray light, explore techniques for stray light reduction, and propose mature solutions to improve stray light performance

• Explore solutions to enhance optical efficiency, reduce module size, and improve system performance

• Investigate AI-assisted optical design methods and conduct proof-of-concept experiments to confirm their feasibility

• Attend top academic conferences and exhibitions to exchange ideas and help identify future trends and directions in optical modeling

Your areas of expertise

• Master in optics, CS, AI, mathematics, or other related disciplines, strong knowledge in light propagation theory

• Proficiency with raytracing, optical design and simulation software. Programming skills are considered as a plus, particularly experience with Python and/or other high-level scripting languages

• Passionate about innovations and technology in optical modeling, and strong willingness to learn cross-disciplinary knowledge

• Fluent in English (written and oral) and open to cooperation and to work in a team with multiple cultural backgrounds collaboration
