Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München invites applications for a PhD position in Immunology at Planegg. The project investigates dendritic cell biology in the context of viral infection and vaccination using in vitro and in vivo models.
You will design experiments, perform advanced analyses, and contribute to manuscripts while collaborating across disciplines in an international team.
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München is a leading research university in Europe. Since its founding in 1472 it has been committed to the highest international standards of excellence in research and teaching.

The Institute for Immunology is part of the Biomedical Center (BMC) of the LMU Faculty of Medicine. Research in the Krug lab is dedicated to elucidating developmental and functional diversity of dendritic cell (DC) subpopulations in the context of viral infection and vaccination. We use yellow fever vaccination (YF17D) as a model of a highly efficient and long-lasting immune response in humans and want to understand how this response is initiated as a blueprint for development of effective anti-viral vaccines. We aim to define the early response to the vaccine virus in a human skin model and in mice. We ask which skin-resident cells at the injection site in the skin are infected and propagate the virus in context with the local type I IFN response and how dendritic cells get activated and present the viral antigens to T cells to promote optimal T cell differentiation.
