About the Project
APM Terminals is undertaking a significant acquisition and capital container terminal expansion and transformation project at the North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven (NTB) Container Terminal. The purpose of the project is to:
- Fully integrate NTB into the APM Terminals portfolio.
- Modernize and upgrade the terminal by introducing new equipment, updating the infrastructure and IT/OT systems, and implementing a new operating model.
- Support growth in the existing container terminal business and expand the business value and proposition for Maersk.
Role Overview
We are seeking an OT&A Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will draw upon project and industry experience to form part of a high‑performing project team working across automation, equipment, and integration workstreams. Excellent teamwork and collaboration across a technically and culturally diverse group of stakeholders are prerequisites.
Principal Accountabilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end deployment of OT products within Falcon, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, product integrity, and site‑specific requirements. In‑scope items include Crane Automation features, TOS, AutoSC, AD, AIL, Glass Support, and Quality Assurance.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive Project Management Plans (PMPs), covering scope, timelines, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and compliance.
- Deliver product deployment approach and plan, assuring product integrity, integration, and testing.
- Ensure OT and operational performance ramp‑up aligns with overall project delivery pace, switching from conventional to automated assets and linking yard activity to automated equipment performance.
- Act as a sparring partner to all functional departments, challenging requirements for modernization and technical integration to ensure the use of the most up‑to‑date solutions with a fit‑for‑purpose approach.
- Define and execute the OT product optimisation strategy in collaboration with product owners, OEMs and terminal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with safety and other relevant regulations during deployment.
- Maximise and continuously improve consistency between product deployments.
- Continuously ensure the deployment fulfils all site‑specific needs as defined in consultation with the project and terminal teams within the product blueprint for site deployment.
- Manage and lead a team of OT experts, keeping them engaged, motivated and aligned with project goals.
- Operationalise global, cross‑functional product definitions within terminal‑specific conditions, including any related site‑specific configurations that need alignment between global and local stakeholders.
- Provide regular reporting on project progress, budget status and key performance indicators to senior management.
- Work closely with other OT&A Managers and Project Execution teams globally to establish a common deployment approach, continually improve it and share best practices.
- Work with suppliers’ deployment teams to proactively ensure delivery meets APM Terminals plans/targets and drive local product integration and alignment between suppliers within the boundaries of product integrity.
- Oversee first‑line support for the deployment at the terminal(s) until go‑live and remain involved until operations stability.
- Oversee definition of and participation in all testing milestones and approve the outcomes.
- Contribute to local product adoption by facilitating capability building and knowledge transfer to terminal staff as part of the deployment.
Critical Qualifications / Skills / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Professional expertise and deep knowledge in container terminal operations and relevant experience in port automation or modernisation.
- Proven experience in project management, particularly in the container terminal industry or related fields.
- Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive Project Management Plans (PMPs).
- Strong understanding of technology systems such as TOS, ECS, PLC/SCADA, API/Middleware, OPC UA, 5G, cybersecurity.
- Proficiency in English; German is preferable.
- High familiarity and proven proficiency delivering results within a project/product deployment environment.
- Versatile resource‑management and planning skills.
- Strong prioritisation abilities and a can‑do mindset.
- Methodological know‑how to lead iterative design, development and testing cycles from end‑to‑end throughout the deployment.
- Ability to balance short‑term deliverables with long‑term business objectives.
- Ability to solve complex problems on a daily basis and in a structured manner.
- People‑leadership skills for driving success of deployment teams.
- Continuous focus to drive change management as a key enabler for stakeholder buy‑in and successful deployment outcomes.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with a high degree of autonomy.
Dimensions
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Work is typically performed in a general office setting, comfortably at a computer terminal. Travel internationally may be required.
While performing the duties of this job the employee will have to withstand exposure to outdoor or adverse working conditions, and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
Nature and Scope
- This position has direct reports and multiple contractors and 3rd party vendors to monitor and supervise.
- This position works with both internal and external stakeholders.
- This is a position based in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Reporting and Scope
- Direct reporting line: Project Director (on site).
- Functional reporting line: Global Head of OT&A.
