A research institution promoting advanced studies in Germany invites applications for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. Candidates will engage in groundbreaking research on mass and gravity, contributing to critical areas such as Higgs physics, dark matter, and gravitational waves. The positions offer competitive salaries and the opportunity to be part of the Quantum Universe Research School, which supports academic growth and engagement in research community activities. Women and qualified disabled candidates are encouraged to apply.
The Cluster of Excellence “Quantum Universe” performs research to understand mass and gravity at the interface between quantum physics and cosmology. The research team includes leading scientists from mathematics, particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology at the University of Hamburg and DESY.
We are looking for up to 50 outstanding doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with excellent degrees and scientific track records in the following research areas:
The term of doctoral and postdoctoral contracts is typically limited to three years. The salaries are internationally competitive and are typically 66.7% E13 for doctoral positions and 100% E13 for postdoctoral positions, where E13 is the German public service salary scale.
Successful candidates will join an inspiring worldclass environment for research and education. They will become members of the Quantum Universe Research School (QURS), which provides academic and key skills training, as well as career planning support. In addition, they will receive individual budgets to facilitate the attendance of summer schools and conferences, and to support other educational measures. They may also participate in the organization of the Cluster via an early career council.
We aim to increase the number of women in research and explicitly encourage women to apply. Equally qualified female applicants will receive preference in the application process. Qualified disabled candidates or applicants with equivalent status receive preference in the application process.
