Abbott in Germany, Trier, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist I to perform high-complexity testing and ensure QA/QC and regulatory compliance in a busy laboratory setting.

The Medical Laboratory Technologist I is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, and complying with all applicable regulatory laboratory requirements. The high complexity nature of the work requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to complete tasks as directed and be flexible with tasks and schedules, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
The place of work is the Lab in Trier, Germany.
Standing or sitting for long periods of time and some lifting may be necessary. Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements. Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment, including pipettes and micro-pipettes for extended periods of time. May perform repetitious actions using lab tools. Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range. Use of various chemicals to perform duties. Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 20% of a typical working day. Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously. Ability to use a telephone through a headset. Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to concentrate, read, or analyze data, or apply scientific rules. May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day. Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height. Willingness to travel approx. once a year to the US for training, if required.
Preferred QualificationsBasic Laboratory molecular pathology experience. Ability to speak and write in German language or willingness to learn/improve in the first year to B1 level. Possession of working knowledge of laboratory accreditation regulations. Basic laboratory automation skills. High volume laboratory experience. Previous experience working with LIMS.
