Kirby Group Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Lead for a major data centre project. The role requires taking ownership of commissioning activities, ensuring correct sequencing, documentation, and client satisfaction.
The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers and work closely with PMs, QS and vendors to maintain schedule, quality and safety benchmarks on a fast-paced project.
About Kirby Group Engineering is an international multi-disciplinary engineering services contractor and leading provider of high-value engineering services to a number of 'blue chip' companies. Operating across Ireland, the UK, Europe and South Africa, Kirby has become the engineering service provider of choice in growth segments such as pharmaceuticals, data centres and power transmission and distribution. Our culture is innovative, collaborative and performance focused. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a company committed to developing talent and rewarding performance.
If you're the kind of engineer who wants to take real ownership of commissioning - not just tick boxes - this should get your attention.
We're delivering a major data centre project. It's fast-paced, highly technical and full of the sort of moving parts where strong commissioning leadership makes or breaks the job. That's why we're looking for a Mechanical Commissioning Lead who knows how to bring systems online properly, manage multiple specialists, and keep both the quality and the momentum exactly where they need to be.
You'll be the person who makes sure the commissioning doesn't just happen - it happens in the right sequence, with the right documentation, and to the standard the client expects.
That includes:
You'll help define system boundaries, manage benchmarks, oversee test packs, and ensure everything is accurate, compliant and ready for inspection. You'll also take a proactive role in identifying risks, reporting them clearly, and helping the project team stay ahead of possible delays.
You'll issue weekly commissioning and risk reports, advise on potential variations, and work closely with QS and PM teams to avoid surprises. Clear communication is essential - especially when something might impact programme.
You'll enjoy this role if you prefer action over bureaucracy, responsibility over hand-holding, and clarity over chaos. Special consideration will be given to candidates belonging to protected categories under L. 68/99.
