Outline

The Max Planck School Matter to Life is a joint Graduate program of German universities and research organizations. The Program addresses the questions “What is life?” and “Can life-like processes, functions and objects be quantitatively described, simulated, predicted and created in the laboratory?“ Its work focuses on methods to describe, model, and ultimately harness the laws of physics and chemistry that govern the biological processes of dynamic spatiotemporal organization of life into molecules, cells, tissues and organisms.

What is funded

The Program is a 5-year Master to PhD direct track program. During the first 2 years, the joint Master phase at Heidelberg University and University of Goettingen, applicants are supported by a scholarship that provides 1500 EUR/month. For the subsequent PhD phase, students receive a scientific researcher contract.

Duration

2 years

Applications are open to passionate and motivated students worldwide. Applicants should have at least one of the following by the start of the program.

• a Bachelor of Science degree (e.g. in Chemistry, Physics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Materials Science, Biotechnology) or
• aBachelor of Engineering (e.g. in Molecular Systems Engineering, Bioengineering) or
• a course of study in a related natural science or engineering disciplinein at least six semesters
