New Relic is seeking a seasoned engineering leader to guide a Data Platform team responsible for ingest into a telemetry datastore handling metrics, events, logs, and traces at scale. You’ll set technical direction and own architecture while guiding engineers through complex distributed systems challenges.

You will stay hands-on, contribute production code, mentor engineers, and manage operational health, including CI/CD and incident response, in a flexible work model.

Qualifikationen

• 7–10 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years as a technical lead.
• Deep fluency in Java or a comparable object-oriented language.
• Experience running stateful distributed services in production.

Role overview

Lead a team within a Data Platform organization responsible for managing ingest into a purpose-built telemetry datastore that ingests, stores, and retrieves metrics, events, logs, and traces at massive scale. The role sets technical direction, owns architecture and design decisions, and guides engineers through complex problems in high-throughput distributed systems processing millions of messages per second.

Responsibilities

• Weigh tradeoffs between performance, maintainability, and operational cost when making architecture calls for ingest systems
• Scope, estimate, and own delivery of complex, multi-engineer projects from design through general availability
• Stay hands‑on, writing and shipping production code regularly alongside the team
• Develop engineers through code review, technical feedback, and career mentorship
• Communicate technical risk and tradeoffs in stakeholders can act on
• Own the operational health of the systems including CI/CD, observability, and incident response

Requirements

• 7–10 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years as a technical lead for a team or major initiative
• Deep fluency in Java or a comparable object-oriented language, with the ability to ramp quickly across other languages and frameworks
• Experience running stateful distributed services in production under unpredictable load, including debugging complex failure states
• Hands‑on experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD tooling (Argo CD or similar), event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar), and container orchestration (Kubernetes or similar)
• Experience with data modeling and query optimization against relational databases at scale
• Track record of mentoring engineers and strong written and verbal communication

Nice to have

• Infrastructure-as-code experience across multiple environments and cloud providers (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
• Experience querying or reasoning about time-series or telemetry data
• Formal SRE practices such as managing SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, or chaos testing at scale
• Secure‑by‑default design experience including OWASP familiarity and tools like Snyk or SonarQube

• Estimated base pay range of $186,000–$233,000 USD
