The U.S. Department of the Interior seeks a Lead Recreation Fee Technician to supervise fee collection at parks and facilities. You will train staff, answer visitor questions, and ensure proper handling of funds in accordance with federal rules.
Entry on duty is anticipated for spring 2027. This seasonal position requires strong cash handling, customer service, and supervisory skills, with duties expanding from GS-06 to GS-07 as staffing needs grow.
Collect and account for fees at various locations interacting with visitors and sharing information. Serve as front-line representative to answer questions and offer guidance to guests. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for these positions are variable due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April - May 2027. Some of the Lead Recreation Fee Technician Standard Duties include but are not limited to: Provide on the job training, mentoring, and coaching to employees, volunteers, and/or interns in accordance with established procedures and practices. Additional duties for GS-06: Lead at least three full-time employees performing duties associated with the collection of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA). Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all regulations governing the handling of government funds. Work to resolve difficult or sensitive problems associated with the collection, remittance, and deposit of fee revenue and donations. Additional duties for GS-07: Lead three or more full-time employees on a regular and recurring basis in which the highest subordinate grade level is GS-06. Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Keep in touch with the status and progress of work and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.

You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
