Webnique GmbH is seeking a senior backend-focused engineer to own technical architecture across client projects and internal SaaS products. You will define data models, APIs, and hosting, while ensuring security from the start and upholding coding standards.

You will lead a small team, work hands-on with Laravel/WordPress and Next.js, and integrate AI workflows daily. Fluent English is required, German is a plus, and the role is based in Munich with a modern office.

Competenze

• At least 5 years of professional web and web app development with a backend focus (Laravel/PHP, Node.js).
• Ability to design and operate production systems with strong frontend familiarity (React/Next.js).
• Security-minded with OWASP and GDPR in daily practice.
• AI-native approach; daily use of Claude Code, Cursor and integration of LLM APIs.
• Proven leadership experience and proactive problem-solving.

We build websites, web apps, portals and our own SaaS products. The bigger the projects get, the more depends on the technical foundation: an architecture that holds, security that's built in from the start, and plans that hold up.

You own that foundation. You decide on architecture and stack, set standards for quality and security, and make sure projects go live within the planned scope. You code yourself, mostly on the backend, and lead a small team of developers covering support and frontend. AI is a fixed part of your work: you use Claude Code, Cursor and the like every day and make the team faster with them.

How you support us

• Define the architecture for client projects and our own products: data models, APIs, integrations, hosting

Development

• Hands-on backend and full-stack development with AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor
• Web apps, portals, interfaces and automations, including LLM integrations
• A mix of existing projects (Laravel, WordPress) and new products (Next.js, Supabase)
• Estimate effort realistically, plan projects technically and deliver within budget
• Lead the development team and structure tasks clearly, remote included
• Technical contact for clients and sparring partner for management
• Establish AI workflows in the development process

What sets you apart

Must-have

• At least 5 years of professional web and web app development with a backend focus (e.g. Laravel/PHP, Node.js), plus confident on the frontend (React/Next.js)
• Architecture: you've designed systems and run them in production
• Security: auth, permission concepts, OWASP and GDPR are standard for you
• AI-native: Claude Code, Cursor or Copilot are part of your daily work, and you've already integrated LLM APIs
• Structure and initiative: you plan, estimate realistically, deliver within scope and raise problems before they get expensive
• Leadership: experience as a lead, in mentoring or with code reviews
• Very good English

Nice-to-have

• German as your native language
• Living in or near Munich
• Agency experience with several client projects in parallel
• SaaS and payment experience (e.g. Stripe)
• Experience with WordPress or Webflow

• Specialising in a single framework. With AI tools you switch between stacks quickly
