SAP is seeking an experienced AI Developer to join our AI Frontrunner team. You will build prototypes and MVPs that translate AI advances into enterprise software, collaborating with product teams, data scientists, and developers across SAP.

What you’ll do:

We are looking for an experienced, hands‑on (Junior) AI Developer to join our AI Frontrunner team within SAP Business AI. Our team explores emerging AI capabilities and turns them into working prototypes and MVPs for concrete business problems. We work closely with SAP product teams, LOBs, and customers to evaluate where new AI approaches can create meaningful value in enterprise software. This role is suited to someone who enjoys moving from an ambiguous problem to a technically credible solution in a short time. You should be comfortable exploring unfamiliar domains, building end‑to‑end applications, and making pragmatic decisions when requirements, technologies, and expected outcomes are still evolving. The goal is to translate relevant advances in AI into working software using real business processes, systems, and data.

The Role

• Scout for and apply frontier research in AI, emerging sytem designs, architectural patterns, models, frameworks in prototypes and POCs
• Design and build rapid AI prototypes and MVPs in short, outcome‑focused exploration cycles.
• Translate user, customer, and product problems into technically feasible AI solution concepts.
• Implement end‑to‑end AI capabilities across SAP apps and backend services, data pipelines, APIs, and user‑facing applications.
• Define and execute evaluation and testing approaches covering functional quality, model or agent behaviour, latency, cost, reliability, privacy, and security.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Project Leads, UX Designers, Architects, Data Scientists, and Developers from our team and partner organisations.
• Engage with SAP Lines of Business, product teams, customers, and customer‑facing organisations to understand business processes and validate solution assumptions.
• Communicate technical decisions, progress, risks, and findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Contribute reusable components, templates, evaluation methods, and engineering practices that help the team accelerate future AI explorations.
• Support other developers through design discussions, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and hands‑on technical guidance.

What You Bring

• Several years of hands‑on experience building cloud‑native software, AI applications, or data‑intensive systems.
• Strong development skills in Python, TypeScript, Node.js.
• Practical experience with modern applied AI, such as LLM appls, RAG, agent frameworks, tools and skills etc.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs, services, integrations, and containerised applications.
• Ability to debug and improve systems across application code, model behaviour, data flows, integrations, logs, and runtime environments.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, product, design, architecture, and business stakeholders.

Particularly Valuable For This Internal Role

• Familiarity with AI use cases, solutions, or strategic initiatives across SAP.
• Understanding of business processes and application landscapes in areas such as Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Human Resources, Customer Experience, or Industries.
• Exposure to customer projects, co‑innovation engagements, design‑partner programmes, or technical workshops with customers and partners.
• Ability to navigate SAP’s product and organisational landscape and identify the right domain experts, product owners, data sources, and integration points.
• Experience working with SAP technologies such as SAP BTP, CAP, SAP AI Core, SAP AI Launchpad, HANA, S/4HANA, Knowledge Graph, etc.
• Experience implementing SAP Product Standards
