A leading family business in sustainable investments is seeking an experienced Investment Director to spearhead M&A strategies and portfolio expansion. This pivotal role demands over 10 years of M&A experience, overseeing end-to-end deal execution and supporting portfolio growth. The ideal candidate will have strong business acumen, fluency in English and German, and the ability to foster relationships that create long-term value. This position is based in Munich, with regular travel required.
Location: Munich, regular travel required
Drive strategic growth and transformative M&A across a world‑class sustainability portfolio.
As Investment Director at Viessmann Generations Group, you will be at the forefront of strategic investment and portfolio expansion. This high‑impact role combines end‑to‑end M&A execution with the opportunity to shape long‑term value across a diverse set of mission‑driven companies in the climate, water, and food sectors. If you're an entrepreneurial investor looking to make meaningful contributions to businesses that matter - and to the future of our planet - this role puts you in the driver’s seat.
As a globally active, independent family business in its fourth generation, we have been shaping living spaces for generations to come since 1917. Under the leadership of Max Viessmann, we pursue our mission with a long‑term perspective and entrepreneurial spirit.
Today, the Viessmann Generations Group supports over 30 mid‑sized companies and family businesses across Europe and the US – all united by their active contribution to the energy transition. We invest capital, expertise, and passion in three core impact areas:
Climate: Renewable energy, carbon reduction, and green infrastructure
Water: Solutions for water scarcity, quality, and efficiency
Food: Sustainable agriculture, supply chain innovation, and food technology
Our goal: to create impact – ecological, societal, and entrepreneurial.
The Viessmann Way supports how we work, lead, and create value together - whether as a team member, entrepreneur or partner in our ecosystem. It is not a rulebook, but a compass: a living set of principles shaped by over a century of entrepreneurship and guided by our long‑term purpose.
You will hold a pivotal role in the continued growth and diversification of the Viessmann Generations Group. This role offers a rare combination of strategic scope and operational depth. You’ll lead the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of investments that are both economically sound and impact‑driven - and play a central role in defining how we expand into new verticals and geographies. Working shoulder‑to‑shoulder with our shareholder, entrepreneurs, and portfolio leaders, you’ll be empowered to influence capital allocation decisions, shape value creation strategies, and co‑develop business models with long‑term relevance. Beyond execution, this is a role for a builder - someone who is excited to contribute to the evolution of one of Europe’s most values‑driven investment platforms.
In this role, you’ll have full‑cycle ownership of M&A and strategic investment initiatives within a fast‑evolving and diversified platform. You will lead the process from initial market research and thesis development all the way to closing and integration. This includes identifying high‑potential targets, building business cases, conducting due diligence, and steering negotiations - often directly with founders, managers or family owners.
Your analytical toolkit will be fully activated as you assess risk and opportunity across different company profiles, construct valuation models, and synthesize insights from multiple stakeholders into clear recommendations. Just as importantly, you’ll work closely with portfolio company leaders - not only to support execution, but to serve as a trusted partner as they grow their businesses, pursue bolt‑on acquisitions, or explore international expansion.
This is not a siloed role. You’ll collaborate across internal functions and investment clusters, working with Viessmann’s board members and the investment team to ensure alignment across all stages of the investment journey. Your ability to build strong, trusted relationships - both internally and externally - will be key to unlocking long‑term value in a dynamic and mission‑led environment.
10+ years as an investment professional, with a proven track record in M&A and portfolio management
Deal Execution: Independently led multiple M&A transactions end‑to‑end (from sourcing and valuation to negotiation and closing)
Holistic understanding of the full investment lifecycle, from origination and execution to integration and long‑term value creation, including strong experience in post‑deal portfolio management
Buy‑Side Background: Solid experience in corporate M&A, private equity, family office, or entrepreneurial investment platform
Business fluency in English and German, with strong interpersonal and presentation skills
