Roche in Penzberg, Germany seeks a motivated student for an internship in the cell culture process development team. You will contribute to technology development and platform optimization for a viral vector manufacturing platform, with a focus on learning and applying methods from day one.

The program emphasizes hands-on laboratory work, data analysis, and collaboration in an intercultural team. Starting Oct 2026 for six months, with a monthly remuneration of €2,268 for a full-time arrangement,

Qualifikationen

  • Currently enrolled at a university or university of applied sciences in biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a comparable course, or in a gap year between bachelor’s and master’s studies.
  • Ideally, you already hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Initial practical experience in a laboratory setting is preferred, with basic knowledge of cell culture, bioprocess concepts and/or media preparation.
  • You are independent, committed, structured, and enjoy technical challenges.
  • Proficiency in English is required and good German proficiency is favorable.

Aufgaben

  • Plan, prepare, and execute small-scale laboratory experiments to optimize cell culture media preparation protocols including shake flask experiments.
  • Investigate and evaluate ranges of critical preparation parameters.
  • Analyze experimental data to establish robust, standardized operating ranges for the protocol.
  • Work individually and in intercultural teams to achieve project goals within defined timelines.
  • Leverage literature and past studies to extract critical information for the project.

The Position
Your department

The cell culture process development team of Roche in Penzberg is looking for a motivated student to directly contribute to technology development and platform optimization for our future viral vector-manufacturing platform. Hereby, we are entering a new era of gene therapy with the great potential to reshape the treatment of several human diseases.

During your internship you will partake in this development. Our team attaches great importance to making your time at Roche as rewarding as possible. Your tasks
  • Plan, prepare, and execute small-scale laboratory experiments to optimize cell culture media preparation protocols. This also includes shake flask experiments (cell growth and production of Adeno-associated viral vectors) to test media performance
  • Investigate and evaluate ranges of critical preparation parameters
  • Analyze experimental data in-depth to establish robust, standardized operating ranges for the preparation protocol
  • Work both individually and as part of an intercultural team to achieve project goals within defined timelines
  • Leverage scientific literature and past studies to extract critical information supporting the project
Your profile
  • You are currently enrolled at a university or university of applied sciences in biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a comparable course, or you are in your gap year between your bachelor's and master's studies
  • Ideally, you already hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
  • You preferably have initial practical experience in a laboratory setting, ideally with basic knowledge of cell culture, bioprocess concepts and/or media preparation
  • You are distinguished by your independence, commitment, structured way of working, and you enjoy technical challenges
  • You are proficient in English (required) and have a good command of German (favorable) to successfully communicate within our team
