Job summary

redalpine seeks an experienced People Operations Manager to own the employee lifecycle, lead hiring and the Visiting Analyst programme, and drive AI-enabled HR processes. Based in Berlin, you will work closely with the Head of People & Culture, ensure payroll across Germany, Switzerland and the UK, and maintain compliant, accurate employee records.

You will partner with internal and external stakeholders, build scalable HR systems, and contribute to a fast-growing, multi-country VC environment

Qualifications

• Hands-on with end-to-end employee lifecycle management and payroll.
• Experience running hiring processes and managing external agencies.
• Startup background with in-house People Operations or HR in scaling environments.
• Payroll across multiple countries with knowledge of local labour laws.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proven ability to build processes and automate HR tasks, including AI-based workflows.
• Fluency in English and German; Berlin-based with regular in-office presence.

Your mission

As our People Operations Manager, you own that backbone at redalpine. You run the employee lifecycle from contract to exit, lead our hiring and the People side of our Visiting Analyst programme, and build the systems and AI-supported processes a growing, multi-country team needs. Based in our Berlin office, you are the trusted first point of contact for the team on everything People, working hand in hand with the Head of People & Culture and our Office & Team Coordinator.

We are looking for an experienced People Operations Manager to join as soon as possible, on a fixed-term contract of 15 months with the possibility of extension.

• Own the employee lifecycle end to end: prepare employment contracts, confirmation letters, exit documentation, and run onboarding and offboarding so that every new joiner lands well and every leaver goes out cleanly. You keep employee records in Personio accurate, complete and audit-proof.
• Lead hiring of candidates and the Visiting Analyst programme: own recruitment for roles across different functions end to end, and the People side of our Visiting Analyst programme. You also support senior searches, and work together with our external recruiting agencies.
• Be the trusted first point of contact: advise colleagues and managers on our policies and processes, and keep productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, from providers to authorities.
• Digitalise how we work with AI: continuously improve our HR tools and processes, get more out of Personio by automating what is still manual. You build the systems a growing, multi-country team needs and help us set the standard for how AI is used in People Operations.
• Run payroll across three countries: own the monthly payroll cycle in Germany, Switzerland and the UK, making sure salaries and compensation are correct and on time every month. You work with our external providers and keep us compliant in each jurisdiction.
• Work hand in hand with the People & Office team: partner with our Head of People & Culture and our Office Manager on daily operations, the performance management cycles, team building activities and the wider People and Culture initiatives that help us attract and retain the best talent in VC.

Your profile

• Hands‑on people operator at heart: you like doing the work yourself, from drafting a contract to closing payroll, and are not looking for a purely coordinating role.
• Recruiting experience: you have run hiring processes yourself, from the job ad through screening and interviews to the offer, and you are used to working with external recruiting agencies.
• Startup background: in‑house People Operations or HR experience at a scaling startup, where you built things rather than inherited them. VC or professional services experience is a plus.
• Payroll and compliance confidence: you have run payroll and employee lifecycle administration before, ideally across more than one country. Experience with German, Swiss or UK payroll and labour law is a strong plus, as is knowing when to bring in external counsel.
• Stakeholder management: you are a trusted counterpart for colleagues and managers, handle confidential data with care, prioritise across competing requests and manage up.
• Systems and process builder: hands‑on with Personio or a comparable HRIS. You spot the manual steps in a process and remove them instead of working around them.
• AI‑native: you have built your own sourcing, research or outreach tools with AI and use them in your daily work.
• Experience, location and language: 3+ years of experience in People Operations or a similar position, based in Berlin with regular in‑office presence expected. This is not a remote position. Fluency in English and German is required.
