Jobbeschreibung

Paralos Energy is an engineering and construction company specialising in energy infrastructure and power projects. With extensive experience in High Voltage and Medium Voltage substations, renewable energy projects and grid infrastructure, we deliver engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle – from concept and detailed design through procurement, construction, testing and commissioning.

As part of our international expansion, we are looking for an HV/MV Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Berlin, Germany, on a hybrid working basis.

The successful candidate will contribute primarily to the design and engineering of HV/MV substations and grid infrastructure projects in Germany, supporting projects associated with grid reinforcement, renewable energy integration and the ongoing energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

As an HV/MV Design Engineer, you will be involved in the engineering and delivery of substation projects from concept through detailed design and construction.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and review the primary electrical design of HV/MV substations, including AIS and GIS installations.
  • Prepare and review single-line diagrams, general arrangements, equipment layouts, busbar arrangements, cable routing, earthing layouts and lightning protection systems.
  • Perform and/or review electrical engineering calculations and studies, including:
  • Earthing / grounding studies
  • LV, MV and HV cable sizing and thermal calculations
  • Load-flow studies
  • Power system analysis
  • Prepare technical specifications, equipment datasheets, design calculations, design reports and engineering documentation.
  • Support the technical specification and selection of major substation equipment, including:
  • Power transformers
  • HV/MV switchgear and GIS
  • Circuit breakers and disconnectors
  • Current and voltage transformers
  • Surge arresters
  • Busbars and conductors
  • HV/MV cables and cable systems
  • Earthing systems
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable IEC, EN, DIN and VDE standards, project specifications and relevant German grid operator requirements.
  • Participate in technical meetings and design reviews with clients, TSOs/DSOs, consultants, OEMs, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces with civil, structural, protection & control, SCADA/telecommunication, mechanical and construction disciplines.
  • Review supplier drawings, technical documentation, calculations and equipment submittals.
  • Support procurement activities through technical bid evaluations, supplier clarification meetings and equipment selection.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, installation, testing and commissioning.
  • Perform site visits and technical inspections to verify compliance with approved designs and project requirements.
  • Participate in and oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for major electrical equipment.
  • Support project permitting, technical documentation and coordination with relevant authorities and grid operators where required.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews and identify opportunities for technical optimisation, constructability improvement and cost-efficient engineering solutions.
Your Profile
  • University degree (Dipl.-Ing., BSc, MSc or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional experience in the design or engineering of HV/MV substations, transmission/distribution systems or power infrastructure projects.
  • Good understanding of primary substation engineering and HV/MV equipment.
  • Knowledge of engineering calculations including earthing, lightning protection, cable sizing, short-circuit calculations and load flow.
  • Familiarity with relevant IEC/EN standards; knowledge of DIN/VDE standards and German TSO/DSO requirements is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with AIS and/or GIS substations is desirable.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical layouts and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with power system analysis and engineering software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP or equivalent tools is an advantage.
  • Experience with protection & control systems, secondary engineering or substation automation is considered an advantage.
  • Experience with auxiliary building services and MEP systems such as HVAC, lighting and LV distribution is considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard engineering documentation tools.
  • Professional proficiency in English is required.
  • German language skills are highly desirable and will be considered a significant advantage for coordination with German clients, grid operators, authorities and suppliers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured engineering approach.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within international and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong communication, coordination and technical documentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel within Germany and internationally for project meetings, site activities and FATs when required.
What We Offer
  • A Berlin-based hybrid position combining office collaboration with flexible remote working.
  • The opportunity to work on major HV/MV substation and grid infrastructure projects in Germany and across Europe.
  • Direct involvement in projects supporting grid expansion, renewable energy integration and the German energy transition (Energiewende).
  • Exposure to the complete project lifecycle – from concept and detailed engineering through procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • The opportunity to work with leading European TSOs, DSOs, utilities, developers and equipment manufacturers.
  • Collaboration with an experienced international engineering and construction team.
