Job summary

Das Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ) in Bayern sucht eine/n HPC-Systemadministrator/in (m/w/d) zur operativen Betreuung der nationalen Supercomputer-Infrastruktur und weiterer HPC-Cluster. Sie arbeiten an Bereitstellung, Wartung, Security und Optimierung der Systeme.

Sie verfügen über einen Masterabschluss, mehrjährige HPC-Erfahrung und starke Linux-Kenntnisse. Gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse sowie Teamfähigkeit und Spaß an Prozessverbesserungen runden das Profil ab.

Qualifications

• Universitätsabschluss (Master oder höher) in Informatik, Mathematik oder Naturwissenschaften.
• Mindestens 3 Jahre HPC-Erfahrung.
• Umfassende Linux-Server-Erfahrung in großem Umfeld.
• Server-Administration inkl. Sicherheit/Härtung.
• Scripting/Automatisierung (Shell, Python).
• Ausgeprägte Fehlersuche und Problemlösung.
• Sehr gutes Deutsch und Englisch in Wort und Schrift.
• Team- und Prozessverbesserungserfahrung.

Responsibilities

• Bereitstellen, Konfigurieren und Warten von HPC-Clustern.
• Routineaufgaben mittels Skripting (Bash, Python) automatisieren.
• Betrieb von Ethernet-Netzwerken und HPC-Interconnects.
• Sicherheit, Patch-Management und Sicherheitsmaßnahmen umsetzen.
• Fehler finden und beheben, Zusammenarbeit mit Herstellern.
• Systeme und Verfahren dokumentieren.

HPC System Administrator (f/m/d)

Your Role and Responsibilities:

We are looking for an HPC System Administrator to join our HPC Systems Operation group. You'll be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and optimization of our HPC clusters, ensuring maximum performance and availability. These HPC clusters comprise the national supercomputer at LRZ as well as additional state-wide HPC clusters of various size.

• Deploy, configure, and maintain HPC clusters.
• Automate routine tasks using scripting (Bash, Python).
• Operate Ethernet networks and HPC interconnects.
• Maintain system security, apply patches, and implement security measures.
• Hunt and fix bugs, often in collaboration with vendor companies.
• Document systems and procedures.
• You actively contribute to the development and implementation of certified and transparent processes.

Your Qualifications:

• University degree (master or above) in computer science, mathematics, or natural sciences
• At least three years of experience in high-performance computing
• Solid experience with Linux servers in a large-scale environment
• Proficiency in the system administration of Linux servers including security considerations and hardening
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g. Shell, Python)
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent German and English in writing and speaking
• You like to share your experience and review existing processes to identify opportunities for improvement within the team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the installation and operation of Linux clusters with cluster-management tools like xCAT or confluent
• Experience with Ethernet networks, High-Performance Interconnects, and Parallel Filesystems.
• Knowledge about compiled programming languages (e.g. C, C++)
• Ability to develop and implement practical solutions autonomously as well as in a team
• Service-oriented attitude
