Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, seeks a Head of Power Unit Controls Development to lead SECU software, HiL, real-time systems and data processing across the Power Unit.

You will build a high-performing interdisciplinary team, define the technology roadmap, ensure high-quality software delivery, validation and interface with Design, Testing, and Trackside groups.

Qualifikationen

Aufgaben

  • Lead and develop Power Unit Controls organization, including SECU Software Development, HiL & Real-Time Systems, and Systems/Data Processing.
  • Build, coach and inspire a high-performing engineering team in a motorsport environment.
  • Define and execute the Power Unit Controls technology roadmap aligned with project objectives.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of software and validation across development phases.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with Power Unit Design, Testing, Performance, Operations, Trackside Engineering and Chassis Controls groups.
  • Establish robust development, validation and release processes for quality and traceability.
  • Lead decisions on software architecture, modelling environments, simulation tools and validation tools.
  • Ensure use of virtual development platforms, HiL, and digital-twin environments.
  • Define strategy for engineering data acquisition and measurement systems.
  • Oversee data acquisition for power unit components, dynos, test benches and HiL platforms.
  • Support performance optimization and reliability investigations via data-driven engineering.
  • Contribute to risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide engineering support to Mission Control and race events as needed.
  • Foster innovation, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • As manager, handle personnel matters, department organization, resource planning, budgets and interface agreements.

Since the 2026 season, Audi has been competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
The new team has three locations. The Motorsport Competence Center of Audi in Neuburg (Germany) is considered one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The Formula 1 factory of Audi Motorsport AG in Hinwil (Switzerland) is known for its innovative technologies and passion for racing. The Audi Motorsport Technology Center in UK is in its launch phase and growing continuously. Our Power Unit comes from Neuburg, while Hinwil is responsible for the development of the chassis and race operations.

This position is to be filled at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg (Germany).
AsHead of Power Unit Controls Development, you will lead the Controls department responsible for Standard ECU (SECU) software development, virtual validation, Hardware-in-the-Loop systems, Systems/Data Processing for the Audi Formula 1 Power Unit. You will drive the development strategy, foster technical excellence and ensure efficient execution across all Power Unit Controls activities while building and motivating a high-performing interdisciplinary team.
Combining engineering excellence with strong leadership capabilities, you will play a key role in delivering competitive performance, reliability and innovation for Audi's Formula 1 programme.

Your Mission
  • Lead and develop the Power Unit Controls organization, including SECU Software Development, HiL & Real-Time Systems, and Systems/Data Processing
  • Build, coach and inspire a highly qualified team of engineers in a high-performance motorsport environment
  • Define and execute the Power Unit Controls technology roadmap aligned with overall Power Unit project objectives
  • Ensure efficient delivery of software and validation activities across all development phases
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with Power Unit Design, Testing, Performance, Operations, Trackside Engineering groups and Chassis Controls group
  • Establish robust development, validation and release processes to guarantee quality, reliability and traceability
  • Lead strategic decisions regarding software architecture, modelling environments, simulation technologies and validation tools
  • Ensure effective utilization and continuous improvement of virtual development platforms, HiL systems and digital-twin environments
  • Define and execute the strategy for engineering data acquisition and measurement systems across all Power Unit development environments
  • Oversee data acquisition solutions for the Power Unit components, engine dynos, subsystem test benches and Hardware-in-the-Loop platforms
  • Support performance optimization and reliability investigations through data-driven engineering approaches
  • Contribute to technical risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Provide engineering support to Mission Control and race event activities when required
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • As the disciplinary and functional manager, you are also responsible for all personnel-related matters within the department, the organization of the department, resource planning and schedules, budget limits, the maintenance of the management systems, as well as process and interface agreements
Your Profile
  • Successfully completed studies in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Control Engineering or a comparable discipline
  • Several years of leadership experience in high-performance motorsports engineering organizations
  • Proven track record in control systems, embedded software development, simulation and calibration environments
  • Experience with combustion engine software and a good understanding of high-performance engines
  • Strong understanding of modern hybrid powertrains, electrified propulsion systems and control architectures
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink-based development environments, ideally Motion Applied
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop and virtual validation methodologies
  • Excellent understanding of embedded control systems, communication protocols and vehicle integration processes
  • Experience managing complex technical projects and multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and management levels
  • Ability to translate strategic objectives into operational execution
  • High level of ownership, resilience and decision-making capability
  • Demonstrated ability to develop talent and build high-performing teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent English communication skills; German is beneficial but not mandatory
