Role Overview

As the Head of Engineering at Seobility, you lead the technical heart of a mature, high-traffic SEO SaaS product. We’ve just completed a large relaunch of the platform last year — and are digging into the real work now: evolving what an SEO tool does as AI rewrites how people search and what they expect from software. In a rapidly changing market shaped by AI-driven search, you lead our organizational and technical evolution. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will bridge the gap between engineering challenges and business impact. You guide the team through a transformation toward greater autonomy and lead them towards outcome-focussed execution and AI-native engineering. We’re a small, senior team — ambitious and driven, but we genuinely look out for each other. You’ll find real scope to own and room to grow.

Your Impact (First 3-6 Months)

• Build Trusting Partnerships: Establish deep working relationships with the engineering team and tech leads to foster our culture of psychological safety and high performance.
• Enable Distributed Ownership: Support the team in fostering ownership for outcomes. Guide the transition from functional (FE/BE) to end-to-end ownership.
• Optimize and Leverage: Partner with the team to resolve friction, bottlenecks and leverage AI potential. Implement a value-driven delivery flow with improved predictability and velocity.
• Strategic Roadmap: Start executing on a roadmap that balances the strategic transformation of our engineering (e.g. tech debt, AI-native engineering, upskilling) with our product innovation goals.

Responsibilities

• AI-native Engineering: Spearhead the adoption of AI-native engineering practice to substantially increase engineering efficiency.
• Organizational Transformation: Guide the evolution from functional roles to broader roles and outcome-orientation. You bridge gaps between Product and Engineering and make the two grow closer, reduce dependencies and empower the team to deliver end-to-end value.
• Technical Vision: Own and co-create the technical vision & roadmap with your Tech Leads, balancing "tech debt" reduction with feature delivery.
• Platform Health: Make sure our data-heavy platform is fast, reliable, and secure as it scales — with data privacy and GDPR handled as a matter of course.
• People Development: Mentor and empower an international engineering team to embrace full ownership and foster confidence in autonomous decision-making.
• Strategic Collaboration: Act as a high-level sparring partner to the CEO and Product leadership, and partner with the saas.group Central Platform team on DevOps and infrastructure topics. Navigate trade-offs between technical sustainability and delivery speed.

What you bring to the table

• Hands-on Builder: You see yourself as a builder: you personally build and ship with AI — we expect significant time hands-on.
• SaaS Leadership: Proven track record of leading engineering teams in a high-scale production environment, with a focus on efficient team structures and operational excellence.
• Technical Credibility: You possess high technical credibility and hands-on experience across modern stacks (ideally PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, and cloud infrastructure) and bring a particular strength in architecture and system-design.
• AI First: A forward-thinking approach to AI as a core lever for both product features and engineering productivity, including agentic workflows.
• Product-First Mindset: With your strong product-sense, you are a key partner for user value creation and prioritize engineering efforts based on customer value and business impact rather than technical elegance for its own sake.
• Change Management: You are skilled at building alignment during transitions, leading teams through change and resistance to a new rhythm and velocity.
• Enabler Mentality: You measure your success by what your team (incl. you) ships, not only by what you personally build.
• Domain understanding: Domain understanding of SEO-related web technologies (websites, crawling, indexing, content analysis) is a strong plus.
• Communication: Fluent English is a must; German is a strong advantage given the brand’s roots.
