Head of Engineering

We are seeking a talented and hands-on individual for a crucial leadership role to shape our engineering department and drive product development. As the most senior technical leader in the organisation, you will provide direction, nurture collaborative cross-functional teams, and ensure our engineering strategy aligns with business objectives. Working alongside product, DevOps, infrastructure and software engineers, you will establish strong foundations for scaling both our technology and our engineering processes. You will also play a key part in shaping the culture and mentorship across our engineering organisation.

Key Responsibilities – Engineering Leadership and Strategy
  • Develop and execute the overall engineering strategy in line with company vision and objectives, ensuring scalable, reliable, and high-quality technology solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership across software, infrastructure and DevOps, ensuring best practices are implemented across code, deployment pipelines, and cloud operations.
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor engineering managers and technical teams, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product Management, QA, and executive teams to set technical priorities and deliver high-quality products efficiently.
  • Champion lean, agile development methodologies, and support autonomous team structures.
  • Assess and address technical debt, architectural challenges, and drive continuous improvement across all areas of technology.
  • Promote the adoption of modern technologies and workflows, such as Infrastructure as Code, test automation, and robust monitoring/alerting.
Key Skills and Required Experience – Head of Engineering
  • Extensive experience (8+ years) in hands-on software engineering and technical leadership roles within complex technology environments.
  • Proven background in building, scaling, and managing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and expertise in cloud-native architecture, deployment, and operations.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure, DevOps, CI/CD, and automation best practices.
  • Experience designing and leading secure, scalable, and highly available distributed systems.
  • Significant exposure to Agile and Lean development methods, with a track record driving iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to set expectations and influence at all organisational levels.
Desirable Qualifications – Senior Technology Management
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in system administration, security, networking and cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS IAM, VPC, security best practices).
  • Prior experience as a Principal Engineer, Technical Director, CTO, or similar senior engineering management role.
