Jobbeschreibung

Job description

Climate Analytics is seeking an experienced, strategic Head of Communications to set the vision and direction for global communications based on organisation mission and vision.

You will lead the development and execution of an organisation‑wide communications strategy that advances our mission, sharpens our positioning on 1.5°C and climate policy, and strengthens our brand and design system across all channels. As a member of the Management Team, you will contribute to overall organisational strategy, aligning communications priorities with research, policy, fundraising, and partnership objectives.

You will build and manage a high‑performing communications team: directly line‑managing 2–3 core staff, providing leadership to communications colleagues across our global offices, and overseeing specialist contractors. You will set standards for editorial quality and brand consistency, ensure clear messaging and compelling narratives, and guide the planning and delivery of flagship outputs, including reports and briefings, blogs and commentaries, media materials, proposals, and promotional assets.

The Head of Communications will also steward Climate Analytics’ external profile and influence. You will develop audience and channel strategies, oversee media relations and digital engagement, manage reputational and issues risks, and establish metrics and feedback loops to drive continual improvement and impact.

Responsibilities
Communications
  • Lead and oversee both internal and external Climate Analytics communication activities and processes, including media outreach, digital communications and events.
  • Work with the Executive Team, Content Teams and Offices to further develop and implement a cohesive communication strategy with clear KPIs, indicators of impact, and robust monitoring and evaluation.
  • In collaboration with the heads of our content teams, steer strategy and plans for major projects and flagship publications, and track delivery and impact.
  • Advise the CEO and Management Team on strategic opportunities, risks and reputation management.
  • Ensure timely production of communications‑related project deliverables, aligning outputs to organisational priorities.
  • Be the keeper of Climate Analytics’ brand identity and direct the development and periodic update of our identity and design guidelines, templates and presentations
  • Direct the redevelopment and continuous improvement of the Climate Analytics website (UX, accessibility, analytics‑led optimisation, SEO, and content governance).
  • Safeguard editorial quality: ensure accuracy, accessibility, and brand alignment across all published outputs. Direct message framing and prioritisation on the most pressing climate issues with Partnerships and Content teams.
  • Oversee production of the Annual Report to clearly convey achievements, strategy, and impact to partners, funders, and the public.
Representation and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Represent Climate Analytics at high‑level events and conferences, where appropriate, including the release of publications / reports.
  • Oversee global media relations, cultivate strong relationships with priority global outlets, and proactively position CA analyses, experts, and publications.
  • Oversee general stakeholder engagement and communication, ensuring effective timing and interdependency management of communications.
Executive Communications & Internal Communications
  • Develop and coordinate executive messaging for the CEO (town halls, partner meetings, Board updates, keynotes).
  • Support Management Team members to articulate CA’s impact consistently for internal and external audiences.
  • Work with People and Content teams to strengthen internal communications and organisational storytelling.
  • Develop CA spokespeople, including directing media training, to improve CA “bench‑strength” of spokespeople across topic areas, geographic regions etc.
Lead Communications Team
  • Lead and manage the communications team and external contractors, fostering a high‑performing, collaborative, innovative work culture.
  • Develop communications capacity across offices; ensure regional strategies align with global brand and quality standards. Ensure that performance reviews are conducted fairly, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Recruit and onboard talent with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Your profile
Essential
  • At least 10 years’ experience in leading communications at a climate / environmental organisation
  • At least five years' experience of communications work with a global focus, including perspectives of developing countries
  • Experience in brand development, corporate design / corporate identity development or similar
  • Educational or professional background in communications, journalism, marketing or similar
  • A broad understanding of climate change, decarbonisation, international climate politics, familiarity with the international climate / environmental NGO community and the UNFCCC climate process, understanding of vulnerable countries circumstances
  • Proven experience in executing successful launches, events and multi‑fasceted communication campaigns
  • Proven experience in working with key international news media
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Native‑speaker level English (our working language). Knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Strong management skills and a proven capacity to effectively organise the work of yourself and others.
  • Great interpersonal skills, highly motivated, proactive, good team player, calm under pressure
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to work effectively on multiple workstreams at once and deliver to agreed deadlines
