As a Head Of Area for Rethink Mental Illness, you will work as part of the South West Regional Services team. You'll engage NHS Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and Local Authorities, as well as engaging with government level strategic programmes, developing partnerships that align with our corporate strategy 'working together to build communities that care'. You will ensure that we utilise the experience, expertise, and reputation of Rethink Mental Illness to help shape care and support services, change the way in which services are delivered through new partnerships and grow our service offer to improve the lives of people severely affected by mental illness in places we operate, and beyond. The release of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan for England in 2025, titled 'Fit For The Future,' presents new opportunities to influence the government's three major initiatives: transitioning care from hospitals to community settings, incorporating digital technology, and focusing on prevention rather than treatment. These objectives align with our Corporate Strategy and are pursued through our internal Mission Delivery Boards. You'll work with other people and agencies, in a joined-up way, so that people living with severe mental illness receive coordinated support. The improved outcomes we expect to see through the delivery of Communities that Care are focussed on:

  • Access to health and social care.
  • Housing.
  • Employment, education, training, and volunteering.
  • Physical health.
  • Money.

Working in our Services Division, reporting into our Regional Associate Director South West, you'll lead our Service Managers, Contract Managers and Registered Managers in ensuring that our services are consistently delivering high-quality, safe and person-centred care and support in line with contractual requirements - most importantly delivering great outcomes for people using our services. You'll work with colleagues across the organisation to develop and grow our service offer. Within your role depending on what is commissioned locally you will have responsibility for a variety of services, including but not limited to care navigation, criminal justice, carers support, community support services, crisis cafes, employment, helplines, housing services including CQC registered properties, peer support services, befriending and mentoring, suicide bereavement or prevention and registered groups. You will work directly with the following people and teams:

  • Associate Directors and Managers leading our operational delivery teams.
  • Corporate Resources colleagues who support the delivery of operations.
  • Service Development and Fundraising colleagues.
  • Colleagues leading our policy, campaigns and coproduction functions.
  • The Senior Management Team
Service/Team Description Overview

The Services Division leads the delivery and growth of our care and support services and NHS and Local Authority partnership working, aligned with our corporate strategy. The team are responsible for ensuring services meet quality standards, contractual requirements and provide great outcomes for people we support. They ensure that in areas where we are leading or delivering partnership working that we meet any contractual requirements and develop effective governance and oversight of this area of activity, including maintaining appropriate separation between our operational service delivery and that of the Strategic Partnership & Alliances Division. The Services Division is a large and constantly growing team being commissioned to deliver care and support services through funding by Local Authorities, the NHS (local and national) and other central government initiatives. This role will be responsible for our services in Somerset, however depending on our growth this patch may evolve, and your role will include activity to generate service provision where we do not have services. Therefore, the ability to travel around the South West region with occasional national travel for meetings and delivery is required by the post holder. This is a field-based role which means the post holder will spend time working from home and travelling to services and other organisations as required. Currently our provision in Somerset is predominantly a range of supported housing services including a 24/7 crisis house and a small amount of outreach and community service provision. A close working relationship with Open Mental Health (OMH) is an important aspect of this Head of Area role. In addition to delivering the commissioned services, the post holder will be responsible for developing new growth in the area and linking in with neighbourhood health transformation and other activities to increase our footprint and reach more people to provide high quality support services.
