Job summary

HARMAN Automotive invites a Hardware Engineer/Expert to join a global HW development team focused on telematics and connectivity in IVI systems. You will assess requirements, define concepts, implement and verify hardware blocks.

The role involves RF design, training in wireless tech, and collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams across locations to meet OEM specs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or relevant field).
• Minimum of 5 years of HW development experience in automotive infotainment or similar complexity.
• Knowledge of RF design and wireless tech (BT, WIFI, V2X).
• Experience with schematic/layout tools and simulation (Mentor Graphics, SPICE).
• Structured, goal-oriented, and able to work in an international team.
• Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS, DNG, ALM) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and verify analog, digital and RF circuits for telematics and connectivity blocks.
• Support RF design training and act as an expert in wireless tech areas.
• Assist in defining technical specifications and supplier evaluations.
• Interface with suppliers/customers and contribute to technology roadmaps.
• Coordinate cross-functional work with global teams during development.

About the Role

• The Hardware Engineer /Expert and HW Architect is a member of a global HW development team to realize telematics and connectivity functions in automotive IVI and telematics systems, which includes assessment of requirements and feasibility, definition of suitable concepts, implementation and verification.
• She/he will be embedded in the Telematics Development Team inside the SBU Connectivity, reporting to the Team Leader HW Engineering or/and to Director Hardware Engineering.

What You Will Do

• In principle, development, test and verification of analog, digital and RF circuits for telematics/connectivity functional blocks within complex hardware architectures under considering of new technology, quality, cost and suitability for series

• Introduction and training into areas of Wireless Technologies and RF Design with the target of acting as an expert regarding:

• Development, test and verification of the appropriate analog, digital and RF circuits

• Support in analysis, evaluation and feasibility of customer requirements and special OEM specifications for RFC, RFI, RFQ and CRs , BOM estimates and calculation, effort estimation

• Assistance/support in the conception, the commercial evaluation and the provision of technical specifications, documentation and presentation material for Telematics- u. Connectivity function blocks and products

• Assistance/preparation of the technical requirement specifications of purchased components/modules for usage in telematics/ connectivity functional blocks and in the evaluation and selection of suitable supplier

• Technical interface to supplier and customer

• Support in defining the technology roadmap

• Introduction into RF requirements of wireless technologies (BT, WIFI, V2X, Mobile Networks, …) regarding defining, simulating and measuring of cross functional RF design under assistance of the Wireless Experts

• Global cooperation with other departments and other location as system design, Construction, Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement and Software during the development process

What You Need to Be Successful

• Minimum of bachelor degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or appropriate graduation)
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the HW development, verification and industrialization of In-vehicle Infotainment systems, telematics/connectivity system or other automotive ECUs of similar complexity level
• Knowledge and experience in RF design, beneficial in wireless technologies (mobile/network, V2X, WIFI, BT) and/or telematics features
• Knowledge of tools for schematic/layout realization and simulation (e.g. Mentor Graphics, SPICE, …) as well as Microsoft applications
• Structured and target orientated working style in an international team environment
• Experience in requirements management (e.g. DOORS, DNG, ALM) beneficial.
• Structured and result-oriented working style
• Ability of team work with internal/external teams
• Good knowledge in spoken and written English

Bonus Points if You Have

• Knowledge in spoken and written German
• Experience in ASIL / ISO 26262 compliant hardware designs
