Full Stack Engineer (m/f/d) - Medical AI-Workflow Platform
Direct message the job poster from IKIM - Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.
The Institut für Künstliche Intelligenz in der Medizin (IKIM) at Universitätsklinikum Essen is building the AI infrastructure layer for clinical workflows. We combine SaaS products (like our deployed dictation app), API licensing, and custom consulting solutions to modernize healthcare. We handle the entire stack from on-premise hardware and self-hosted AI models to the user-facing web application.
The Role
We are seeking a Full Stack Engineer to take ownership of our existing, successful prototype and refine it into a professional, scalable platform. You won't be starting from scratch; you'll be improving a working product that already handles dictation, phone integration, and translation, taking it to the next level of stability and user experience. As part of our core team, you’ll have a hand in every layer, from the web stack to the on-premise AI infrastructure. Our ideal teammate is proactive, driven by curiosity, and motivated to solve meaningful problems in healthcare.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain web application features across the full stack
- Collaborate closely with clinicians and researchers to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Contribute to architecture decisions and technical direction
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing within the team
What We're Looking For
- Degree: Bachelor's or Master's in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or comparable qualification
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in full stack development
- Experience with modern UI frameworks (shadcn/ui, Tailwind CSS preferred)
- Experience with Node.js Backend Frameworks (Express, Hono or similar)
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Basic Python
- Experience with Tauri (optional)
- Experience with or interest in on-premise infrastructure and self-hosted AI models
- Familiarity with object storage solutions (S3 or similar)
- Startup mindset
- Self-starter, low-ego, collaborative
What We Offer
