Limetax is building the agentic-first accounting and tax group for German SMEs.

We acquire established accounting and tax advisory firms and onboard them to our proprietary agentic platform, combining deep industry expertise with AI-native technology.

Backed by $40m in equity and debt from top-tier investors, we're building and scaling a new kind of accounting & tax group in Germany.

Our founders bring significant experience across M&A, operations, and AI-native technology, having previously built and scaled unicorns, Razor Group and Augustus.

The Role

As aFounding Engineer, you'll design, build, and operate AI systems that meaningfully reduce manual work in accounting and tax advisory.

Limetax operates across real tax firms with access to complex production workflows and data — including transactions, documents, client histories, and domain knowledge. You'll use this environment to build AI systems that solve real operational problems rather than isolated demos.

You'll work at the intersection of AI, engineering, and tax domain expertise, building systems that determine which parts of tax work can be automated safely and at scale.

Your focus will be on taking AI from prototype to reliable production systems — including the evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement required to operate AI in high-stakes workflows.

What You'll Work On

• Document Intelligence.Build and operate systems that extract, understand, classify, and process real accounting and tax documents.


• Retrieval & Knowledge Systems.Design and implement RAG and retrieval systems across tax law, internal knowledge bases, client histories, and firm-specific data.


• AI Agents & Automation.Build agentic workflows and AI-driven systems that automate complex, multi-step accounting and tax processes.


• Prediction & Suggestions.Develop systems for use cases such as booking proposals, anomaly detection, classification, and intelligent recommendations.


• Data Infrastructure.Build and maintain the data pipelines and infrastructure required to power reliable AI and ML workflows.


• Evaluation & Reliability.Design evals, monitoring, observability, and feedback loops to understand system performance and failure modes in production.


• Production Systems.Take AI capabilities from experimentation through deployment and continuously improve them based on real-world performance.


• Domain Collaboration.Work closely with engineers, operators, and tax professionals to translate complex workflows and domain knowledge into AI-driven solutions.

• You are a strong builder.You have shipped ML-, LLM-, or AI-based systems into real production environments and are comfortable owning what you build end to end.


• You have high agency.You take technical problems from exploration and system design through production deployment, monitoring, and iteration.


• You are AI-native.You have hands-on experience with LLMs, retrieval systems, AI agents, or related technologies and understand where AI works, where it fails, and where deterministic systems or human oversight are needed.


• You think like an engineer.You build clean, maintainable systems and treat reliability, testing, observability, evaluation, and failure modes as part of the product.


• You have strong product intuition.You care about why you're building something, not just how, and turn ambiguous, real-world problems and messy data into pragmatic technical solutions.
