Background and Purpose of the Assignment

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations’ frontline agency fighting hunger. The WFP Innovation Accelerator, named by Fast Company as Most Innovative Non-Profit Organization 2021, identifies and scales disruptive start‑ups and innovations to end global hunger. Based in Munich, Germany, it offers WFP employees, entrepreneurs and start‑ups funding, hands‑on support, and access to WFP’s global operations, leveraging advances in digital innovation such as mobile technology, artificial intelligence, blockchain and new business models.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement financial reporting to ensure outcomes of projects comply with corporate governance, accuracy, deadlines and accounting processes.
  • Collate data and ensure preparation of accurate and timely reporting.
  • Contribute to financial controls and insights into WFP performance, supporting periodic financial and risk assessments to identify potential audit compliance or financial risks.
  • Monitor budgets and conduct forecasting for new and ongoing projects following established corporate procedures and requirements.
  • Record financial entries in WINGS, such as through journal vouchers (JVs).
  • Support monthly bank reconciliation and activities such as review of the Monthly Minimum Closure Package, replenishment of the bank account, overall cash, ensuring regular corporate compliance and timely submission.
  • Design, implement and monitor standard processes linked to monthly, quarterly and yearly activities, including VAT.
  • Deliver accurate financial reporting in accordance with IPSAS, ensuring accuracy, deadlines and compliance with accounting processes and corporate governance requirements.
  • Support corporate finance and resource management strategies by contributing to policy and procedures that embed value for money, financial assessment reporting and accounting.
  • Support the innovation accelerator build‑up operations & management: collate information and support analysis & content preparation (PowerPoint presentations, data analysis, reports, briefs, etc.) for corporate priority topics and executive meetings.
  • Propose innovative financial solutions to improve efficiency, effectiveness and minimize risk, aligning services with business objectives.
  • Liaise with colleagues in other divisions or external stakeholders as needed.
  • Support the Head of the Innovation Accelerator and the Director INN with any additional activities as required.
Deliverables at the End of the Contract
  • Finance reporting activities and processes well documented and executed.
  • Effective support to operations of the Innovation Accelerator.
Qualifications & Experience Required

Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance; Masters degree a plus.

Experience: At least three (3) years of work experience in the relevant business stream, including general financial and administrative work. UN finance and accounting experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • SAP / ERP expertise in Finance Module.
  • Advanced Excel and data processing skills.
  • Ability to review a variety of data, identify discrepancies, accuracy and attention to detail in preparation of reports.
  • Good knowledge of internal controls and proper accounting procedures.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work in a high-performing, dynamic team; able to interact with a broad range of stakeholders and external audiences with maturity and tact.
  • Strong communication/presentation skills with the ability to write documents to develop business plans and deliver presentations.
  • Interest and a general understanding of technology innovations (e.g. mobile apps, blockchain, AI) and business model innovations (e.g. innovative finance, crowdsourcing).
  • Collaborative spirit, able to partner with a wide range of people at all levels and across cultures, acting with credibility and diplomacy.
  • Self‑motivated and capable of working with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Sets a high level of ambition for the project and own work to achieve impact for the hungry people we serve.
  • Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme.
Languages

Fluency in oral and written English with intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.
